1000 paper cranes for peace
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 04:39 PM by proud2Blib
Students and faculty have been folding paper cranes at Avila University for weeks as a symbolic gesture for peace. On Monday, the cranes were threaded and hung at the campus chapel. (March 24, 2008 Video by: Chris Oberholtz)

6.  I did this with my fourth graders
last year. Not all of the parents agreed with my politics, but who can argue with promoting peace?

9. No but I will definitely check it out.
Looks wonderful.

I so miss read alouds. All we do anymore is test and practice for the test. I decided that I am going to do a read aloud this week regardless of what else is happening. And this looks perfect! Thank you so much. :hi:

10. Last year I visited Hiroshima
In a backpack I took along paper cranes folded and strung on threads by the daughter of a friend. I hung them at the children's memorial with thousands of other strands of cranes. So many prayers for peace.

12. They are carrying on the work of Sadako Sasaki
was a Japanese girl who was a toddler in Hiroshima when we bombed it. In 1955 she was diagnosed with leukemia. She folded more than a thousand cranes, "spurred on by the Japanese saying that one who folded 1,000 cranes was granted a wish."

There is a statue of her in the . People still send folded paper cranes there to express their wish for peace.
