Who or what is the perfect candidate for public office?
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 12:31 PM by SoCalDem
Everyone who runs for office for ANY elected office, thinks that they will be the best thing since sliced bread, but all too often we find out during the run, immediately after installation into office, or while they are serving, that these (usually) guys are FREAKS, ADULTERERS, CHEATS, & LIARS..

Do we care, as long as they "do a good job" fiscally or managerially?

If we say "no leave him (her occasionally) alone", the media must not be getting the message, because they love to sniff this stuff out, and gleefully report on it until the next blonde girl goes missing, or until Brittney forgets her panties again..

We key in on what the media prints/airs, so we MUST be interested in this stuff..

Lots of people say "It's a family matter..between the people IN the marriage"..but is it really?..

A person who is so bold and assured of themselves, that they will enter into public office-seeking, WITH such rattly skeletons in their closets, may just be the type of personality that is DANGEROUS to have in high office.

These people are reckless and is it a good idea to have them in control?

There are millions of dollars spent all over the country every year, investigating them, prosecuting them, defending them, and in some cases, incarcerating them..

Should we seek out only-child eunuchs, orphaned at birth?

Why can't these men "keep it in their pants"?

The regularity with which this keeps happening, is casting a shadow on all the others who may be the epitome of decency.. No one is immune.

It used to be a really BIG deal, but more and more, it's almost expected.. get elected..get investigated..get busted..admit your freakish sex life..embarrass the people who voted for you and humiliate your family..

Perhaps we should start doing it the other way around.. Investigate FIRST..elect afterward.

It's happening way too frequently for this to be excused..

disclaimer: I know that many of these witch-hunts are politically motivated, but more often than not, they actually DO find a "witch".. so why do people with so many obvious and easily found flaws, continue to get elected?

What are WE, the voters, missing?..and why do we keep doing it?

1. The party is supposed to do that
Candidate vetting could use some improvement. Our county party has a candidate selection committee. One issue is that no one can be prevented from running if they pay the filing fee. Thus, unsavory types can get on the ballot and with all the shenanigans politicos pull, they can get elected if they are big enough whores.

We need to take the money out of the process. Until then, it is red light district for any political parties.

2. The (near) perfect candidate would be one who actrually would be a "public SERVANT".
Alas, almost all of the fatheaded egomaniacs who do run for office consider themselves just the opposite.

As far as their sex lives are concerned, I don't give a rip, unless it interferes (i.e. renting the motel room or buying the whips and chains at public expense) with their job as public servant.

Of course, people who are dedicated to real public service are unlikely to run for office or are easily defeated because of their "radical" ideas concerning it.

3. Tin foil hat time...
I propose the notion that many office holders do have some skeletons somewhere in their closets, and that they have been investigated. That's the reason they are office holders. When the time comes, the powerful, who have the information about these office holders use that information to control votes, or to force some agenda.

It's just an idea. I'm not totally in agreement with, but it is something to ponder.
