And it is not just us here in the US, but many others as well I should add.
A thriving planet of people and animals all living together and going about our business. Building our nests, finding a mate, trying to keep life simple.
Sure we all fight over things - from mates to resources. But as a higher level species we have learned to adapt to our environment and make do regionally with what we have. We all differ, we all have different values and needs. And yet somehow we have found many ways to get along.
We communicate with each other, we talk about the things that bring us pain, and that which brings us joy. We discuss our hopes and fears, our worries and desires.
Somewhere along the line though, we forgot that we were all friends in some way shape or form - even when we think the other is off their rocker. We forgot that freedom means letting you be you and me be me. We forgot that sharing with each other benefited us all.
We forgot that we shared a planet where the beauty and wonder of it all was something we should each be able to experience, and we let money decide who got what - we forgot that allowing the few control the many was tantamount to slavery.
When we started working only for ourselves we forgot that there were many others out there who needed us - as much as we needed them.
We forgot to care and to share, and we forgot that we can have it all - it just takes us all to be willing to give to each other, instead of us giving for the few.
And in the end - we forgot the golden rule, the one thing that could save us all. Do unto others as you have them do unto you.
We are each unique, we each have something different to offer, and yet the few things in this world that are celebrated are how much you can own while you live your short life span here on this planet - a planet that will someday go away.
We forgot that all this too shall pass - and that what we do with it while we are here for each other is more important than what we do for ourselves.
When we desire for the dreams of others to come true as strongly as we do for ourselves, then we will have that elusive place that so many call utopia.
Somewhere we forgot that we are fellow passengers here on a journey called life.
And I am just as guilty, but all I ask is that we all forgive and become aware and reach out to one another and respect each other.
And share this precious time we have here.
