Public school nurse sacked after son, 15, reports her for smacking his younger brother at home
By DAVID WILKES

A nurse at a leading independent girls school was sacked after smacking her 10 year old son at home because he swore at her.

Susan Pope, 45, was arrested, questioned and spent a night in the cells but no charges were brought. But the incident did lead to social services placing the boy and his younger sister on the Child Protection Register.

And then Mrs Pope was suspended as senior nurse at Malvern St James Girls School in Worcestershire before being sacked for gross misconduct.

"On the day in question I'd told the younger boy to do something, he told me to 'F*** off' and I warned him about his behaviour and he did it again and so I smacked him on the bottom.

2. While I disapprove of hitting children, the overreaction is insane.
No one deserves to lose his or her livelihood over a potch in tochis. If that's abuse, almost every child raised in all of human history was abused.

3. This is stupid
Losing it at home was probably not the most shining moment of her life, but it had nothing to do with her job.

She needs to sue.

So it's illegal in Massechussets for a parent to spank a child?

And further, a crime that can one fired? In what bizarroworld does that make sense?

7. I don't believe in hitting kids, but...
if my 10 year old told me to fuck off, I'd probably smack him, too.

My parents hit me a lot (spare the rod Irish), and that is why I won't hit my kids.

However, the one hit I remember being effective was the time my aunt told me to wipe that smirk off my face or she'd smack me. I smirked harder and she hit me. The only time she ever has, but I learned my lesson...

9. Sorry, but I don't understand why people feel entitled to control others' facial expressions.
If you don't like the look on my face don't look at me.

11. Sorry, this wasn't a grownup thing.
I was being a bratty 12-year-old.

Incidentally, if I had said "If you don't like the look on my face don't look at me" at the same time, the result would have been the same...

10. Her son is fortunate that she didn't kick
him in the groin area, or anywhere else while wearing those shoes. :wow:

13. Smacking him on his bottom doesn't seem all that bad
I was ready to click on this thread and read that she had beat him to a pulp. That would be child abuse and would justify firing her. But spanking?

14. Only once did I ever hit a child, and it hurt me a lot longer than it hurt the child
.
.
.

He was an 8 year old, that punched me right in the nuts.

I smacked him in the face so hard he almost fell over.

I immediately felt bad about hitting him, but grabbed him by the arms to explain.

I asked him if it hurt when I slapped his face, of course the answer was "yes"

I told him that hitting a person between the legs was a whole lot more painful than my smack in his face, and if he had any doubts would he like me to prove it?

It was a quiet "no".

He learned.

15. poor 15 yr old, had to see this
after intensive therapy, he writes a book, which is made into a movie, then his spoiled brat kid turns HIM in for telling him to be home at 9PM.

Sickening, if my kids would have said that to me, I'd wash his mouth out with soap.

I had it done to me, and I never cussed my cousin again...the little snitch.
