I just went over to GD-Primaries.....It has reached extraordinary new depths.
I feel like I need a shower....

Do you think maybe it's time to start banning people who keep posting obviously inflammatory and hateful BS?
It would be nice to go over there to occassionally have a reasoned discussion of election-related issues, but it's not possible. It's an absolute cesspool. It's enough to sour someone who's new to the forum on the election altogether.

And let me tell you, I don't envy the GD: Primaries mods.

2. Heck, I've been around since 2001 and I'm soured on the election!
Posters from both camps are being so vile toward one another that I feel very disheartened about both the candidates and the future of our party. Well, it's not just the words of the Obama/ HRC folks that make me feel that way; I just don't hear either candidate talking about any real solutions to issues that really matter.

5. Not as sour as I am! My 2 guys were ignored by the media, and now
to have Clinton (a person I would NEVER have even considered) and Obama (better, but too conciliatory for me) go at each other's throats and do the Pubs' work for them -- well, I just don't know. I can't in my heart think that either of them will be able to address the problems this country is facing. They don't even seem to understand that they CANNOT act like this election is business as usual. It isn't. They needed to project a united front, even as they debate each other on the finer points of their programs. They needed to shut out and shout down any Pub attack on EITHER of them as a united duo. Bill Clinton needs to STFU if all he's going to do is say nice things about Pubs, esp the asshole his wife is running against. My God, this shit is the definition of "shooting yourself in the foot."

I've been here since 2001 as well. Civility has gone out the window.

30. And it's spreading on to other forums as well
Heck, even when I agree with some posters around here they've come back looking for a fight. And then, of course, that gets to me and after a while and my fuse gets short as well. I don't even bother with GD:P-who has time for a perpetual flame fest? What possible purpose can it serve? At this point I'm concerned that no matter who gets the nomination 49% of Democrats will at least entertain the notion of not voting or voting third party. I really, really hope that we aren't looking at yet ANOTHER situation where Dems snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. :-(

3. I think it needs to be closed
Then reopened with very strict rules in place and with constant checking by moderators.

Rule#1 Only facts, information that can be verified through at least 3 different sources.

All the other rules can be worked out.

Just my opinion.

4. I think a lot of it may be
people that are new to the forum. I'm seeing so many user names I don't recognize with 1000+ posts in less than 2 months. But there are a few that have been here a while too. I can't stomach it anymore - I thought attacking Bush and McCain was what is was all about.

6. Lot's of rumor, insinuation, innuendo and finger pointing
The Campaigns have broken down to accusations and so has DU.

How about one Obama supporter and one Clinton supporter make their case for their candidate without criticizing the opposing candidate. That would include name calling and ad homonym attacks.

There are reasons to actually vote FOR these candidate, right? We don't have to mirror the actually campaigns, do we?

10. You mean 60 minutes isn't enough time to
come up with a thoughtful researched response?

What, are you communist? We need things fast. Faster is better; just look at the war in Iraq.

Yep, a new format where posts are screened and then left up with time to consider before posting sounds good to me.

Also, it's not just the "newbies." Some people who brag about their long time on DU, as if I care, are some of the worst offenders.

11. Heh heh.
I think 60 is about perfect. 17 minutes proves the diarrhea-of-the-keyboard style in that forum right now. I've seen better exchanges in a pro-wrestling interview.

8. I think quite a few of the posters are Republics
They join up and immediately start bashing one of the candidates, depending on which of the two Rush tells them is the bigger threat that particular day.

I find that it is harder to keep up with all the threads. I started one today and by the time it actually posted, it was 13 down the list and by now is on the second page.....

I prefer to surf after midnight. It isn't as crazy then....

Close it down, then maybe reopen it only to donating members, and only for fact based threads.

Heck, that might not work either. I wish there were a simple solution to put some civility back into the place, though.

26. The "no personal attacks" rule...
seems to have gone right out the window! :( It has been bad in the past -- and every year primary and election season DUers have thought it was the worst ever -- but I think it really is worse than I have ever seen.

I don't see as many DU regulars posting there as as I do the more recent campaign ops and disrupters -- I see a lot of the nastiness coming from those camps.

36. Oh yeah, I noticed. :)
The influx starting January has been HUGE - the pros are really working it for all it's worth, and 'tards from the Icky Site have been having a hayday as well.

I tend to use my mental "ignore" button a lot these days -- it rarely takes more than a handful of posts before you figure out what the posters agenda is.

35. I've taken advantage of Skinner's nifty block.
I was so glad when he followed the suggestion of someone really smart (can't remember who) and made it possible to block GD:P from your latest and greatest pages. Things have quieted down immensely on my Greatest page, which is what I use most frequently.

The war between Obama and Clinton supporters is to the detriment of the Democrats' chance of winning in November.
