God Bless America versus God Damn America
First, I am not religious, so the "God" thing is not part of my concern. But Bless and Damn I understand.

God Bless America, Land that I love
I do love my country, but have been deeply ashamed of some of America's past and current actions. The treatment of Native Americans, The enslavement of millions of Africans, Imperialism, the CIA's countless blunders in other countries, and the current illegal and immoral war in Iraq. Damn, those were damning mistakes.
God Bless America, stand beside her and guide her.
Do we have democracy? Does Diebold ensure our votes count? Are we doing a great job of exporting democracy to other nations? Do these issues piss you off? Damn, they piss me off big time.
Through the night with the light from above.
This is the night. If we've ever needed a light from above it's now.
But have we been damned? Do you believe that you reap what you sow? Is America damned? Vote for change! Let's get back on the right footing. America is blessed with the best Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. in the world. America has been damned by poor leadership, "dumb" wars, prejudice, and injustice. Let the people rise to the the greatness of our country. Bless us.

2. I am reminded of what are reputed to be the words of Abe Lincoln
"Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right."

'God Bless America' is asking God to be on our side. 'God Damn America' acknowledges that we are not on God's side, that we have not acted to be 'always right.'

That's my $.02.

3. America has done a lot of wrong like Iraq that she can be damned for.
And the list goes on and on and many who read Bible see America as the "Mystery Babylon" of the Book of Revelations and we who read the book all know what will happened to her.

12. "I tremble for my country . . ."
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice can not sleep forever.
---Thomas Jefferson
