Georgia DUers particularly Atlanta DUers
how did you fare last night. Looks like that god the governor prayed to was pretty pissed with him last night. Atlanta sure took a hit. I wonder what message he was sending for CNN - they're studios are covered with tarpaulin and they sure believe that the news begins with their damage.

I hope DUers are safe.

1. Atlanta area folks check in
We're fine, other than having our sleep interrupted a few times. Sirens were going off in Douglasville when I got up a little after 6.

and while the tornadoes suck we really need the rain (and a better management by the Army Corps of Engineers of our primary reservoir). Things are good here in the north...I hope everyone downtown is ok and can weather this mess...

16. Almost all damage was right in the center of downtown Atlanta.
I'm about 20 miles north of DT and we didn't even have any raid. Have thunder storms this AM, but I don't see any pink or red on the Dopler so I'm hoping it's just a lot of rain and noise. I sure don't want any damage, but we desperately need the water!

Thnks all for checking on us though.

43. Three or four floors collapsed in one of the buildings at the
cotton mill. Four of the five buildings sustained damage. They don't think anyone was trapped...so far. This really sounds bad for those collapsed homes though. 51 people at a shelter from a senior center in Cabbagetown.

48. Morningside
The weather radio kept talking about 'rotational winds' in the heavy storms in the area and specifically mentioned Piedmont Park - about a mile from our house - as one of the danger spots. We just got lightning and lots of alerts from the weather radio. It was not until the flashes of lightning woke me after six this morning that I heard about the tornado. We still do not have our newspapers so I am assuming the AJC building either got hit or they cannot get their trucks out. Or they are printing a special edition; they do love their huge scare headlines!

52. We live in Grant Park - 1/2 mile from Cabbagetown.
We moved from the Fulton Cotton Mill a few months ago. The building where we lived was flattened. We probably would have been killed had we still lived there. Our unit was on the ground floor of that "pancake stack".

Friends of ours still live there. No contact yet. Very worried.
