Check out who just joined Spitzers legal team...

<snip>

Present at the news conference yesterday where Mr. Spitzer announced his resignation was the latest member of the governor's defense team, Theodore Wells. Mr. Wells was the attorney for an aide to Vice President Cheney, Lewis Libby, in a criminal trial last year in Washington. Also on Mr. Spitzer's legal team are his top deputy from when he served as attorney general, Michele Hirshman, and a white-collar criminal defense attorney, Mark Pomerantz. All three are members of the New York firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.

2. No, when you want a good defense, you hire a good lawyer
Get this - in our country the person is considered innocent until proven guilty. He is afforded rights and if he has enough money, he can buy the best defense out there. The criminal lawyers job is not to get a guilty person off, it is to make sure that the state does it's job, meets its burden and prove its case, it is to make the state prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and to make sure that the state doesn't violate the defendant's rights while trying to make its case.

3. Apparently you didn't get the memo, merh -
All that feel good claptrap is soooo over, doncha know?

These days, you're tried in the press and convicted by public sentiment!

Common law? Bah! That requires work. People have to think, and learn stuff. They even might have to read.

Can't have that, now can we?

*sarcasm - in case someone missed it*
