Drugs in water? nothing new.
Anything for profit and control.

Here's an article from 1991!

Prescription meds are found in sharks, june 2007.
The sharks come into contact with treated waste water which includes traces of the medications previously identified as the cholesterol-reducer Lipitor, various antidepressants such as Prozac and Zoloft, synthetic estrogens used in birth-control pills, and anti-inflammatory drugs such as Celexa.

A VERY good website on this

_In several recent studies of soil fertilized with livestock manure or with the sludge product from wastewater treatment plants, American scientists found earthworms had accumulated those same compounds, while vegetables — including corn, lettuce and potatoes — had absorbed antibiotics. "These results raise potential human health concerns," wrote researchers.

_Blood and liver samples of bull sharks in Florida's Caloosahatchee River, a nursery area for juvenile bullsharks and home to six wastewater treatment plants, are being tested for the presence of an array of medications this winter. Of the first ten sharks sampled, nine tested positive for the active ingredient in an antidepressant.

1. Crazy...can they get back into the drinking water???
I was just thinking about this, because I've been grinding my teeth at night, which I can't remember doing since years ago when I was taking Zoloft.

4. Yes
When you take medicines it isn't all absorbed you pee out part of it, and alot of water supplies are reclaimed water, cleaned up sewer water, And some comes from farms that inject animals with drugs that is peed out,and some comes from old drugs thrown out, there are tons of ways drugs and chemicals get into drinking water, including the military.

14. large molecules
Large molecules, which I presume all medications are, should be relatively easy to trap and filter out. This is much easier than testing, since in testing you don't know what large molecules you are looking for, and different substances require different tests. Purification, however, is a matter of trapping all large molecules. Well within technological capabilities that have been available for decades.

17. So what are you saying?
That the presence of the large molecules are intentionally being left in the water? Or the water is escaping present purification processes?

18. not an expert
I am not an expert really, but I did do some work and study in the water purification field back in the 70's. Trapping and removing large molecules from water is relatively easy and inexpensive. If drugs are getting through whatever filtration is being used, so would all sorts of industrial chemicals. It would seem to me that not much effort is being made.

11. Great resource.
Apparently, my water supplier has been recorded as having higher than healthy levels of arsenic. Unfortunately no testing data on the stuff mentioned in those articles.

15. Its creepy. Who will protect our "precious bodily fluids"?
Did you ever see Dr Strangelove with the military guy freaking out about fluoridation of the water? I remember thinking when I saw that for a second that it WAS a little creepy to have the government putting something into the water...But then to have all these industrial pollutants in it now. It goes to show the private sector really IS a lot more effective at doing certain things... :(
