U.S. Funds Being Secretly Funneled To Violent Al Qaeda-Linked Groups
New Yorker columnist Sy Hersh says the “single most explosive” element of his latest article involves an effort by the Bush administration to stem the growth of Shiite influence in the Middle East (specifically the Iranian government and Hezbollah in Lebanon) by funding violent Sunni groups.

Hersh says the U.S. has been “pumping money, a great deal of money, without congressional authority, without any congressional oversight” for covert operations in the Middle East where it wants to “stop the Shiite spread or the Shiite influence.” Hersh says these funds have ended up in the hands of “three Sunni jihadist groups” who are “connected to al Qaeda” but “want to take on Hezbollah.”

I've heard this on two different tv programs so far tonight! One was an interview with Hersh, and the other one was Scarboro! IF this is true, we just found our strong grounds for impeachment!!!!

1. I wonder if this is anything to do with the funding from Saudi Arabia?
Laundering it? Or is that a separate funding that's going on?

Geez, isn't this the same Bush** who spent the last 5 years accusing anyone who opposed him of siding with the enemy? Hey, George! We weren't sending them MONEY!!

2. Not only THAT, but if this same Fed. Gov't found ANYONE else
FUNDING THE ENEMY they'd be in prison and charged with TREASON!

As much as I detest Pat Buchanan, he was one of the talking heads on Scarboro's show tonight when Joe was talking about this, and even Pat said "IF that's truethey should be impeached immediately!"

Hersh is usually pretty good with his info too!

3. Yes, but we mustn't forget
It's OKAY when Bush** does it.

:sarcasm:

I've been thinking about the Jersey Girls and the other 9-11 families since this news broke. How must they feel, not getting any answers to their questions for 5 years and now learning BushCo is funding the same people that allegedly attacked us on 9-11 and cost them the lives of their loved ones. This is like taking the knife and twisting it.

6. I don't doubt the story for a minute
In fact, I'd wager the details are worse than we think. But we've seen this kind of shocking revelation too many times in the past and watched nothing come of it.

Myself, I highly doubt the Repugs will say anything about it, much less want to hang Bush** even though if true it's treason. On the contrary, my guess is they'll either stay quiet or some will appear on the corporate media this week to offer some typical lame defense of Bush**.

Have the Dems even bothered to say anything about it yet? I haven't seen anyone, but my expectations are very low at this point so I don't spend time waiting for outrage.

7. If this is true, then screw impeachment. Arrest and try them as traitors.
Hang them high when they are convicted.

8. For most of my life, as a liberal Republican (remember those?) I worried more
about our oversized, overpriced military and American imperial tendencies, and little if any about our national security, which seemed almost to be a given.

But I find myself genuinely worried about national security today. Our industrial base is nonexistent, our ability to fund anything is dependent upon China's willingness to front us the money, our military is near toast, and our leaders are playing footsie with our sworn enemies (when they aren't revealing the names of covert agents to the world). I see dozens upon dozens of former generals and CIA agents retiring in order to speak out against this administration -- when has that ever happened before? What can I be looking at, but a genuine national security threat, originating from within?
