Once again, the terra-rists have come across the NORTHERN, not the SOUTHERN, border
So many anomalies, incongruities, ironies and so little time. Some new, some timeless.

Like how we cry, "Freedom!1 Democracy!1" yet ignore what local people say about the (Southern) border wall. How the Catholic Church supports 99 out of 100 social justice issues (witness their hosting the border-wall protesters, below), but is willing to ABORT Lib candidates over ONE disagreement (guess which one). How, as always, it will not be enemies from withOUT who are our country's worst enemies, but our own internal nature----how we are sabotaging our own economy with our knee-jerk reactions to the border, with mindless over-regulations (passports), and escalating tensions with neighbors (Mexican military on the border), depressing the MEXICAN economy further, thereby exacerbating their human export/misery problem while cracking down even more on the ones who "invade" here.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has filed lawsuits throughout South Texas in recent months to gain access to private property to construct a fence intended to halt illegal immigration. In Hidalgo County, the federal government is constructing a concrete wall that also will serve to reinforce the area’s dilapidated levee system. ....

Border Ambassadors, a grassroots network devoted to opposing the border fence and responsible for organizing the upcoming protest, has hosted five protest walks in the Rio Grande Valley, said John Moore, who helped organize the upcoming trek. ....

Each leg of the walk is between 10 and 16 miles. Walkers will stay overnight at Catholic churches along the way, or they can arrange for their own transportation between their homes and the starting and ending points each day. ....

Nuevo Progreso begs tourists to return

James Osborne
March 6, 2008 - 7:06PM

NUEVO PROGRESO — From the man who paints tourists’ names on grains of rice to the teenagers selling pirated DVDs, everyone can sum up business in this tourist-dependent Mexican border town in two words.

“It’s dead,” said Angel Guerrero, 86, who sells fruit-flavored ices near the Progreso International Bridge. ....

Over the last two months business owners and vendors in Nuevo Progreso have reported a considerable drop in tourists, leading to revenue losses as high as 40 percent compared to the same period last year, said Miguel Marquez, Nuevo Progreso and Rio Bravo’s tourism director.

New U.S. passport regulations, a slowdown in the U.S. economy and the presence of the Mexican military are to blame, say business leaders in the city. ....

In Reynosa, bars and nightclubs now close their doors at 10 p.m., ending the all-night party atmosphere in neighborhoods like Zona Rosa. The early closures are to avoid conflict with the military’s patrols. ....
