When it comes to the race we are in, it seems like a no-rules cage match.

But, when it comes to McCain, you can't say this, you can't say that about him. There seem to be more rules when it comes to attacking McCain then there are for our own candidates.

We can't bring up his racial prejudices, we can't bring up his disastrous visit to Iraq in which he said things are going swell in a market and the next day there was a massacre of 21 Iraqis in that same market, and as time goes by, we'll learn that there are scores of other things in which McCain is not allowed to be attacked with.

There was another Presidential candidate who was not allowed to be attacked with certain things; we couldn't bring up his history of incompetence, whether it was with companies he owned or the State he governed, we couldn't bring up his questionable record of military service, we couldn't bring up his criminal record, this candidate was untouchable in many ways.

We all know who this man was, what happened on election day, and what he did to this country.

Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It.

1. Yes, it's nuts here.
Almost like internal cannibalism.

I can understand having a preference for
a candidate, and of course saying why and
doing your best for that person..

BUT

.. the attacks need to be directed at McCain
and the Reeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

2. You couldn't be more right.
People, especially on DU, are far more worried about pushing their own personal agendas rather than pushing for the party itself. We are so caught up in this "oh no, you can't say THIS" or "you can't imply THAT" or "your opinion is insensitive to (insert women or blacks here)". The childish infighting is appalling.

3. Of course
it's always been thus.

If this forum spent one tenth the energy fighting Republicans as it does trashing Democrats, it might actually have some positive effect.

7. Not everyone who posts on DU is liberal or a Democrat
I think that explains the specifics you mentioned.

In general, though - to me it makes more sense to hold your own candidates up to a higher standard. They are representing you, after all. And unquestioningly conforming and obeying and marching in lockstep has never helped anyone.

8. Lately, I've been bracing myself...
...for four more years of a Republican presidency. Things are just too crazy and contentious on the Dem side lately. And then last night I hear a report on the news about some guy stabbing his brother during an argument about whether to vote for Hilary or Obama. I thought the waning days of the Bush presidency would fill me with a sense of hope, but I am not feeling that with the way things are going.
