Oil Prices Spike to Record $105.10 in Wake of Supply Report and OPEC Production Call

Oil prices hit a record $105.10 a barrel Thursday, a day after a surprise drop in U.S. crude supplies and a decision by OPEC not to boost production.

Prices gave up some ground by midday trading in Europe. Light, sweet crude for April delivery was still up 11 cents to $104.63 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Esso stations across the Prairies are running low on gasoline and face rotating outages for the next few weeks, according to owner Imperial Oil.

Operational issues have reduced output at the Strathcona refinery just east of Edmonton, forcing the company to ration supply to its Esso stations across the Prairies, and into British Columbia, Imperial said Wednesday.

The 187,000-barrel-per-day facility, the largest of three in Western Canada, started rationing gasoline and diesel on Feb. 24 after problems in its fuel processing unit forced it to run at reduced rates, Imperial spokesman Gordon Wong told the Herald.
We have been able to meet demand up to this point, but there likely will be sporadic outages at select retail sites over the next few weeks as we continue to work the repairs on the various units at the Strathcona refinery," Wong said.

I'm been telling you guys for more than a year that oil production is in decline and supplies are beginning to fall short of demand. This is only the beginning of a long emergency.

12. At those prices, gasoline will be 4.00 in the heartland. It's already 4 in some urban areas.
The higher gas prices go, the more is sapped out of the US economy, an economy largely dependent upon foreign crude oil.

13. When I went to see the movie "I am legend"...
the audience gasped when they saw an abandoned gas station in Manhattan with $6.50 gas. I laughed out loud.

gas in Manhattan has been traditionally higher than anywhere else. If it was $6.50 there that means it was probably about $5.75 everywhere else.

not that far away.
