Oil Tops Inflation-Adjusted Record Set in 1980
Capping a relentless rise in recent (Bush) years, oil prices hit a record high during the day on Monday, then pulled back to close below the record. The day’s highest trading price, $103.95 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, broke the record set in April 1980 during the second oil shock.

Gold Beats Financial Assets as Investors Seek Haven
March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Gold, silver, platinum and palladium may be the best-performing financial assets this year as inflation and slowing growth erode the value of the world's major currencies, bonds and stocks.

2. Will this whole episode be acknowledged for what it is?
That is, a complete debunking of Conservative economic policies? Something tells me the answer is no.
