Rove on Faux news: Getting out of Iraq would drive oil prices to $200
This morning on Fox News Sunday, former White House adviser Karl Rove claimed that redeployment from Iraq would cause oil prices to shoot to $200 a barrel:

" If we were to give up Iraq with the third largest oil reserves in the world to the control of an Al Qaida regime or to the control of Iran, don’t you think $200 a barrel oil would have a cost to the American economy?"

Before we invaded oil was a $36 and now is $103

What a bold faced lie.......I suspect it would have the opposite effect.
My guess is the Iraqis would dump as much oil on the market as they could to help pay for rebuilding things.

This is all contingent on the Iraqis having control of there own oil which I don't know for sure.

4. Al Qaida has never been anywhere near strong enough to
control Iraq, and the Iraqis distrust Iran.

6. The Same Old
We are constantly bombarded by this stream of lies from the American administration.

One is reminded of the quotations of Hitler: "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."

or perhaps

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it."

Either one is more than applicable.

9. How's offshoring helping America?
That tangent aside, it IS true that if we left, Iran would size up Iraq faster than you can sneeze. And that would probably destroy the global economy, long before we perfect alternative transport technologies, period.

10. Oil is the tie that binds us to Iraq, but we must be fair to the Iraqi
people, not "take control" of the oil.

I think the right President could help America and Iraq with that oil.

The wrong President is this guy.

18. Nice catch
If Rove says something it is the opposite
also he worked on Lieberman's campaign in 2006 and admitted it.

16. Ah, another fine prediction to add to the list
File it alongside http://thinkprogress.org/2006/04/19/bartlett-caught-in-lie">this one by Laurence Lindsey, Bush's senior economic adviser in 2002:

As for the impact of a war with Iraq, "It depends how the war goes." But he quickly adds that that "Under every plausible scenario, the negative effect will be quite small relative to the economic benefits that would come from a successful prosecution of the war."

"The key issue is oil, and a regime change in Iraq would facilitate an increase in world oil," which would drive down oil prices, giving the U.S. economy an added boost.
