US Republicans agree to anti-war vote
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=331539

After months of blocking similar debates, Senate Republicans in the US agreed with Democrats to advance an antiwar bill which could cut off funds.

Now security conditions in Iraq have improved, Republicans believe they may have the upper hand in the debate and will be able to work with the imporoved statistics provided by US military sources.

The measure, by Democratic Senators, would cut off money for combat after 120 days.

4. Watch them take credit for "ending the war"
Wouldn't that be the worst PR blunder the Dems have made since IWR?

8. Bad drama
They'll take a "rogue position" like McCain and Specter did...and then later they'll give us exactly what we don't want...perhaps another surge?

In the end, they'll say that they are for troop drawdown- "look at our vote!", but then they'll say to withdraw is impossible for one reason or another.

6. No, the GOP Senate just wants to use debate time to cheerlead for the war.
They really believe that they can somehow make the American people support it again, or at least keep it from being a damaging issue for them, if they spin it enough.

9. They were already doing that
And getting points for blocking the Dems. Why offer to debate, unless they plan to steal the show again?

10. I'm a little aggravated at Russ and Reid for pushing this when they
know it will certainly fail. Why give the GOP time and opportunity to frame their rah-rah war argument, and then set us up to LOSE to this argument?

13. K&R but it's not "FINALLY" yet...
Nearly 4,000 US casualties to date are pretty "final," though. In political circles, when it comes to the most unpopular war in our history, there's plenty of big talk - right before a national election but is talk truly ending the Occupation of Iraq?
