they can't possibly still believe the repukes are on the side of "family values"

real progressives have been abandoned by the Democrats

the religiously insane have been abandoned by the repukes

the paleo-repukes can't possibly still believe the repuke party any longer represents fiscal conservatism

they don't really represent anyone anymore except the rabid warmongers and the oligarchy

how many new parties would spring up if the two party system really went belly up?

2. Yes. They need a timeout.
Maybe in the 4 corners

where they can't hurt anyone or start any wars.

* - Sorry if you live near there, but it fit with the corner punishment thing.

21. Amen! And we need them to take a timeout, too.
They need to get their heads straight. And spend more time studying the Bible and interpreting it. They should really focus on that kind of stuff and not be out in the world getting contaminated by it.

3. We need more parties..
repubs need to split into

Christian Conservatives
Small Government Libertarians
Corporate Republicans

where the rightwing racist loonies end up, is beyond me..but they would never dare to organize a real party

and dems could use a shake up too

we need a LABOR party

4. There have been big cracks appearing in the alliance
between the rich and the pious for the past 3 years or so, ever since the Schiavo case gave the pious such a bad name. Plus, abortion is still legal and gays are getting married in more states now than in 2004. Oh my.

Even the dumbest of them are starting to get a glimmer of the reality that they have been used by the rich and that they're not the beneficiaries of the alliance, although the preacher just got a new Lexus off them faith based tax dollars. Praise Jebus.

I honestly don't expect the coalition to last much past this election. I think the overly pious are going to reject worldly concerns at a faster pace, and this means letting the old voting registration lapse through disuse. If there is a split in the party, it will be an acrimonious one, and either side has a chance of creating the splinter party.

5. Remember that BushCo are disaster capitalists.
Whether that means regarding cash, resources, or social power. Look to them to profit from any chaos. Remember the California Enron-created "recall" election? If you ever see chaos, watch for them to prosper, or to attempt to prosper.

Sometimes you must destroy in order to replace your target with your own designs.

9. ah yes, the fake recall
with the fake outrage and that dirtbag and Cheney's water carrier, Darrell Issa.

http://www.rescuecalifornia.com/

not to mention the fake election with the fake, gamed voting machines that made their single, one-time appearance in Alameda County ONLY for the fake recall.

and of course the fake recall was for what again? unbalanced budget? and Ahhhnald was going to fix all that?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/21/BAT1V5PL2.DTL&hw=deficit&sn=001&sc=1000

and Issa was also the water carrier for the Electoral College gerrymandering that the Repubes want so very badly in Cali.

all the plans for the "recall" were made in the secret Cheney energy meetings in 2001. which Ahhhnald was invited to and attended. gee, why would Cheney invite a vacuous action film actor to top-level secret energy meetings???????

15. the irony is that the little stooge, Issa, really thought HE was "the guy"
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 05:43 AM by SoCalDem
what he was , was the horse that checks out the mares..and gets them all hot & bothered..then he's escorted from the barn & the fancy stallion gets to get busy with the "girls"..

7. There is already a grassroots split happening:

They are saying the Republican party has migrated to far to the center/left.

because then the American people will really find out how few supporters they really have. . .and how our media played them up far too long. . .

13. They already have one
The constitution party http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php

Their platform starts:

The Constitution Party gratefully acknowledges the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as Creator, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe and of these United States. We hereby appeal to Him for mercy, aid, comfort, guidance and the protection of His Providence as we work to restore and preserve these United States.

And without the ones we live by, they certainly won't last very long.

18. They will unfortunately retake the GOP after this year.

When McCain loses the GOP will reason....

o with whackadoodle GW, they win

o with relatively sane McCain, they lose

And so the Republic Party will return to their embrace of batshit crazy.

19. FAMILY VALUES PARTY
FAMILY VALUES PARTY - This ultra-conservative, theocratic party seems to exist mainly to promote the frequent federal candidacies of party founder Tom Wells of Florida. Wells explained that God spoke directly to him on December 25, 1994 at 2:00 a.m. and "commanded him to start" the FVP. To be exact, Wells said God specifically told him to encourage people to stop paying taxes until the public funding of abortion ends. The FVP political platform is largely derived from religious fundamentalism, including many specific citations to Bible passages. This "party" remains largely an alter-ego of Wells -- who seems to run every election as a write-in candidate for President or Congress (or both).

....the two party system really went belly up?"....ain't gonna happen....the corporations won't allow it....

....it would be expotentially more expensive to chase a dozen ideological parties around to control, with less certainty of results....

24. I think it's possible we'll see a right-wing analog to the Greens
(I'm having flashbacks to the 90's, when my fundie neighbor, who was otherwise a nice guy, gave me a Bo Gritz video to watch)

It's easy to dismiss the religous right-wingers, but consider that they are exceptionally well organized as a result of years trying to end abortion. Their frequent allies in the gun lobby are also well organized. I could see a scenario in which they form a 3rd party (causing the Democrats to sweep into power), and then organize to try to pick up congressional seats in the South and the Heartland in 2010 (which would be a "backlash" election, a la 1992). Like the Greens, they could probably manae to pick up a few congressional seats. They'd caucus with the Republicans, but focus on ending abortion and eroding the separation of church and state.
