This is big -- and I need your help before tomorrow. Last week, House leaders refused to yield to Bush scare tactics. Now, Bush and his allies are scheming hard to get their way.

They’re betting that the House’s show of strength on FISA legislation and telecom immunity won’t last. We must do everything we can to make sure it does.

Here’s what we need from you right now. If we can raise $28,000 more dollars before tomorrow morning, we can run our ad urging Congress to hold firm in next Tuesday’s edition of USA Today.

You and the ACLU have fought long and hard to challenge warrantless eavesdropping and to insist on making telecom companies abide by the law. We can’t relent now.

In addition to the ad, we’ll deliver thousands of petitions on Wednesday, calling on Speaker Pelosi and House members to stand strong against the President. We’ve mobilized our network of affiliates to keep the pressure on representatives in their districts. And our lobbyists are working overtime to get the facts to Capitol Hill.

But, Bush and his allies are pulling out all the stops too. They’re trying to force Congress into passing legislation that gives him too much power and lets telecom companies off the hook for cooperating with illegal government spying.

We don’t need a brief display of moxie from leaders in the House. We need a sustained commitment to defending the Constitution. They did the right thing when they insisted the Senate bill was not acceptable. Let’s tell them to keep doing the right thing now.
