62 seconds that changed everything
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r90z0PMnKwI

If it hadn't been for that 62 seconds he would have won re-election and right now would be their nominee running a thunderous national campaign.

Not that he was that formidable of a foe but they would have had their second coming of Reagan.

62 seconds (and no it isn't Rick Astley)

1. I still want to smack that smug smile off his face every time
I see it. This stupid speech has got to be among the single most significant minutes in public speaking history. Has a campaign that was building momentum ever dissolved so quickly and completely? Sweet, sweet justice to see him fall.

5. This soon?
I would doubt that McCain can appease the south and all the bible thumpers by picking Huckabee or Kemp ( okay not the southerners but where are they going to go?)

3. There was a concerted effort by people like me who
knew firsthand that Allen was a racist to get the word out when he was running back in 2000. I have a friend who is a political consultant in DC who also was in our hs graduating class, and he had tried repeatedly to get the word out through the media about Allen. Most didn't want to hear it, that is, of course, until the Macaca incident when they couldn't suppress it anymore.

In April of 06, though, even before Macaca, Ryan Lizza published a cover story in the New Republic with a bunch of well-documented info that paints a pretty damning portrait of what an unrepentent racist Allen is. There were already cracks in the armor. I don't think he could have survived the repuke primary season, particularly if the other repuke candidates had any interest at all in exposing his past.

4. Okay as true as that is
ron Paul is still allowed on to their stage and on national TV and not one of them has brought up what you me and everyknows was in his newsletter for 12 years. Of course picking on Ron Paul is detrimental on several levels at this point but if they had wanted to put him down on say the day he raised $6Million all it would have taken was a trip to the back of the airplane and the right whisper in the right media ear.

Allen was there guy. They were just sure he was going to be the one this time so I doubt that this would have been raised to tell you the truth.

9. Paul Is No Threat...
A hemeroid, yes...a threat, no. Plus, remember, in the GOOP...showing that someone is a racist is a good thing.

Allen's arrogance also got him. He'd pissed off a lot of the corporate media types and when they saw a chance to pull out the knives...they didn't hesitate. Allen thought he could bullshit and buy his way out of his racism...he just made too many enemies along the way and when he slipped, they made sure he fell. The same could be applied to Larry Craig.

Remember, in the parallel universe, what is bad is good...thus Paul's support of getting out of Iraq is far worse than any racist remarks he's ever been associated with.

Radical Fundamentalist Cleric Mike Hucksterbee said last week that he's waiting for the McCainChurian Candidate to have his "Macaca Moment."

15. He already had one..
when he referred to his captors in Vietnam as "gooks". I'll be amazed if McCain gets through this campaign without looking like a completely racist and/or sexist asshole.

18. I don't expect that to happen
I expect the "Professional Media" to spend all its time talking about either Rezko (if Obama's the nominee) or why Hillary killed Vince Foster (if the nominee's Hillary).

Where The McCainChurian Candidate's concerned, it'll be "Home on the Range:" "Where never is heard a discouraging word . . . "

that Allen would be their nominee. I'm afraid that we haven't seen the last of Allen or Santorum.

17. thank god for macaca
he saved us from George Allen, who actually woulda be a tough opponent. he is likeable and athletic, and young and handsome who could rally their base. Now we get the COMPLETE antithesis, John McCain. AND Allen is now a "racist" so putting him on the ticket would hurt anyone. Thank you so much macaca.
