C-Pac goings on - from a Ron Paul's supporter perspective
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 10:53 PM by robbedvoter
One really, really interesting thing I observed was the amount of applause Romney supporters gave Ron Paul. Other than on the foreign policy issue, they were cheering as loudly as the Ron Paul supporters. The McCain supporters were not cheering, but sat with their arms crossed, for the most part. There was a battle of boos and cheers (the anti-war cheers eventually drowned out the boos) over a statement Paul made about Iraq. I suspect McCain supporters were the loudest of the opposition

1. They want their support for this illegal invasion to be validated...
Then they never have to question themselves. If John McCain supports a 100 more years of this war, then I must have been right, they tell themselves.

6. Yup. W himself went there to do just that:

US Needs No 'Permission Slips,' Bush Tells CPAC
"Removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq was the right decision when it was made and remains the correct call to this day, President Bush told the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday.

Instead of taking cues from international agencies and self-described peace activists, the administration put America's national security needs first in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks"

2. Paul is the sane one on the GOP side.
I am surprised that CPAC even allowed him in the door.

5. His sanity is exclusively on the war issue - madness reigns on the rest
But that's an issue dear to the wingnutz

3. Is this the way our Activists treat Hilary.??
I watched the whole of Romney and McCain

MCain received 9 rounds of solid applause.
The Main booing was when he started on Immigration.

Give these Activists cool off time and most will come around.

4. Ron Paul is going no place, he has only 16 delegates
....now can Romney pledge his delegates to McCain? If he can do that McCain would then have 1,013 and would be within 178 of the winning number.

8. True, but it was interesting - the dynamic between supporters of different candidates

here's how Weekly Standard tries to whitewash the opposition:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/014/708ohozu.asp
But they both applauded enthusiastically when he mentioned FISA reform--something that energized the entire crowd because McCain went after Democrats. Even Tom DeLay, who was standing with his arms crossed throughout most of the speech, applauded when McCain spoke of the importance of nominating conservative judges. (DeLay did not clap, however, when McCain promised to root out corruption and end earmarks. Hmmmm.)
(my comment - love the "hmmmm")
snip

"I suspect, though, that we'll see more than a few of those reporters using their interviews to play up the divisions among conservatives over McCain. That's not to suggest that such divisions don't exist. They do. But these vocal McCain opponents were a surprisingly small minority."
