economic stimulus & lower unemployment: give kids enough financial aid to go to school full time
I teach community college and financial aid has been restructured so that middle and even lower class kids have to work full time jobs while they go to school unless they live at home and their parents foot the bill.

If these kids were in college full time, it would help the economy in the short run by freeing up service sectors jobs, and lower unemployment will mean higher wages for those jobs. In the long run, it will mean more stable prosperity since states with higher rates of education are more prosperous.

2. school boards and school administration
are almost just as bad as board room executives. Soaking up the spoils and contributing nothing. God what a wastefull education system. This should be as huge as the health care issue.

3. yeah, I work @ community college. boards are as corrupt as cheney
People run for positions to throw contracts to cronies.

At least at CCs we have shared governance which means actual faculty decide most academic issues, tho admin still have final say in hiring.

If principals at k-12 were elected like academic senate in cc, there might be fewer shitty teachers who promote trhemselves to admin by taking a few night classes.
