It's the bastards that can teach you the most about dealing with bastards. There's nothing better than having an adversary who everybody fears to learn fearlessness from. Pat Buchanan is one of those kinds of guys. Bill Buckley was the top dog in the 1960s. But Tucker Carlson has turned out to be a disappointment.

What we really need are more liberal Democrats who are like that. Most of the real terror-raising Democrats are highly specialized, usually campaign strategists. Our pundits tend to be pussycats.
