Pay a Teacher's Salary in Afghanistan

Teaching is a vocation, but even the most dedicated teacher can't survive on apples alone. The situation is especially dire in remote regions of rural Afghanistan, where teachers' salaries, when paid at all, are commonly months or years in arrears. To support their families, teachers change to jobs that pay -- leaving their classrooms empty.

$40.00 covers a teacher's salary for one month -- a gift which will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children being taught.

Aid is delivered through Central Asia Institute (CAI), a non-profit supporting community-based education programs in remote mountain regions of Central Asia. CAI involves local people in all phases of these projects -- planning, implementation, and evaluation. A committee of elders and experts guides the process. Before a project starts, the community matches Central Asia Institute funds with equal amounts of local resources and labor. Such commitment ensures each project's viability and long term success.

To date, CAI has built 55 elementary schools in some of the most remote regions of the world. These schools currently teach 22,000 students, 13,300 of whom are girls.

Upon purchase, you will receive an automated e-mail with a link to a full-color certificate of acknowledgment that you may print and frame for display or gift-giving. Adobe Acrobat Reader, or equivalent .pdf viewing program, is required to open the file. The certificate makes a great "instant" gift for an honored colleague, family member or friend.

Please note: Your purchase is tax-deductible in the U.S.A., and you will receive a receipt from GreaterGood.org for your taxes. 100% of this gift goes directly to CAI. GreaterGood Network stores do not receive any profit from the sale of this "gift that gives more"; we bring it to you in the spirit of the greater good.

FREE Shipping! Place this, or any other Gift That Gives More™ in your cart, and your order will ship FREE within the U.S.! See Customer Service page for details.

1. How about paying good teachers' salaries here at home, first?
I can't afford, on my teacher's salary, to help pay teachers' salaries in Afghanistan.

Not that I want any organization to have to take donations. I want a salary commensurate with my level of education and years of dedicated service right here at home.

I don't want my profession considered some sort of volunteerism that has to be supported with private donations.
