If you haven't heard the latest, it's insecticide-laced frozen gyoza from China.

450 Japanese in Hyogo and Chiba prefectures have been poisoned by a popular frozen gyoza.

MY OBSERVATION: If the Chinese cannot keep lead out of lipstick and the toys are children put in their mouths, why in the hell would anyone be comfortable in getting ANY food products from them.

They are poisoning us.

Our government is not protecting us. They are far worse than Japan with regards to watching out for stuff like this. Please believe me. The Japanese are usually right on top of this stuff.

I'm pretty sure we're being poisoned and no one is watching out for us.

BTW, I trust Trader Joe's. They're good and careful and have shown they cancel products from China when there is reason to be suspicious.

4. ...which is why it is imperative to buy organic food as much as possible...
...even if it weren't better in terms of keeping the pesticides out of your body, the waterways are better protected when pesticide usage is reduced.

2. My son bought a ceramic bowl at a supermarket
I take it to the sink to wash and on the bottom is affixed a sticker with a triangular "yield" symbol. This is what it says:
Made in China.

Prop 65.

WARNING

Use of certain tableware for sale in this store will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Patterns identified with this symbol (yellow triangle) displayed on or next to the product are the ones for which this warning is given.

So this is where we are now. Not only can you sell lead-tainted plateware, but the gov't will place a discreet label on it assuring you of lead poisoning if it's used in the manner intended.

3. I tossed all ceramic products made in China...
...some American companies were trying to maintain lists of factories that would not use lead, but lead usage was impossible to verify. I buy American from local potters, but did not toss my Japanese and German ceramic items (English and Italian and French stay, too).
