1 In 3 Boys Heavy Porn Users, Study Shows
Study Shows Rural Children Access Porn More Often

According to a new study by the University of Alberta, boys aged 13 and 14 living in rural areas, are the most likely of their age group to access pornography.

Students were surveyed anonymously about how and how often they accessed sexually explicit media content on digital or satellite television, video and DVD and the Internet. Ninety percent of males and 70 percent of females reported accessing sexually explicit media content at least once. More than one-third of the boys reported viewing pornographic DVDs or videos "too many times to count", compared to eight percent of the girls surveyed.

A majority of the students, 74 percent, reported viewing pornography on the Internet. Forty-one percent saw it on video or DVD and 57 percent reported seeing it on a specialty TV channel. Nine percent of the teens reported they accessed pornography because someone over 18 had rented it; 6 percent had rented it themselves and 20 percent viewed it at a friend's house, according to a press release.

The study also revealed different patterns of use between males and females, with boys doing the majority of deliberate viewing, and a significant minority planning social time around viewing porn with male friends.

The survey results showed that girls reported more accidental or unwanted exposure online and tend to view porn in same-gender pairs or with mixed groups.

I don't have to watch porn, I just use a mirror and I am good to go.

1. Evolution
Not too long ago a 14 year old had to hunt around the house to find his father's or older brother's stash of Playboy or Penthouse. At least I never pledged to be a virgin to a religious zealot wackjob although that usually results in porn sex by good little christians who don't "give up their virgnity" before marriage.

17. porn not good for boys or girls - girls think of themselves as only sex

objects, etc.

and it's men that abuse women/objects

(and yes, some women abuse themselves for being 'objects')

porn makes for a lot of conflicts and complications

23. When I worked in Brooklyn Heights
There was this woman who used to stand on the street corner and scream about pornography for hours on end.

I asked her the same question and what little sanity she had left flew out the window.

It looks like she's found her way onto DU.

25. My own, and might I qualify complete, conjecture on this
Is a matter of projection.

Women who get angry about porn turning women into objects have deep sexual problems of their own - possibly they have been brought up with the standard notion that sex is bad and cannot reconcile that with their own sexual feelings. Blaming porn becomes an easy thing to do - clearly it is the PORN that is responsible for their bad sexual feelings!

Or perhaps some hatred of men deriving from some lover who spurned them leading them into a rabid feminist mindset.

Either way neither you nor I are likely to get any sense out of this woman but we can at least try.

but it never worked. I had to close my eyes and think of something else. I tried all the usual fantasies - you know - sheep, tonight's beef roast... nothing seemed to work. Then one day i saw a picture of a naked woman, and guess what?

19. Nonsense
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 01:55 PM by cyborg_jim
It really annoys me everytime I hear this nonsense because it is completely and utterly counter to any semblance of reality about human sexuality that I can only conclude that the people spouting it have had no experience of it!

So let's go through the standard motions:

1) Explain how men are never sexual objects of female desire.
2) Explain how girls think of themselves as sex objects when watching gay porn.
3) Explain, if porn really causes these problems, how come it has been so widespread for so long (and I mean ancient) without causing society to collapse or everyone to have psycho-sexual problems?

Put simply I reject your assertions as baseless nonsense. It runs totally counter to my discussions with women on the matter on my own experiences.

13. Rubbish
For men it's about sexual stimulation for masturbation - pure and simple.

I know. I'm a man. Not stopped me looking at real women either. People who cannot tell reality from fantasy have other problems not specific to pornography.

35. If you are a man it's pretty obvious
Sexual Images -> Sexual stimulation.

Simple. Nothing grand about it. Just a simple function of the way male sexuality works. We get turned on by what we see.

Boys always whacked it and desired sexuality. They just used other means (like white men raping black women).

8. I occasionally teach high school kids
who dual-enroll in my program.

I had one kid who literally would not (and I believe could not) stop looking at porn.

When he could not access it on the Internet because of filtering, he would being in in on a thumb drive.

After he was dismissed from my program (after a couple of warnings) I found out he had been kicked out of several schools for the same thing.

Very sad. Porn and video game addiction is rampant among you people IMO.

You had an extreme case. The extremes are always rare. No increase in the amount of pornography will cause more people to be like him - you will have those who are obsessed, those who have heavy interest, those who have moderate interest, those who have light interest and those who have none.

Until the day sexuality is eliminated from humans there will be an interest in pornography - it's been going strong for a couple of thousand years now, I don't see that changing any time soon.

When I was a delivery boy, I can't tell you how many times I was invited into the home or apartment of a beautiful woman. And, you know what would happen?... She would pay me the money for the food and I would leave. Another perfect porno situation squandered.
