Bush Says Reliance on Faith Helped Him Beat 'Addiction' to Alcohol

President Bush called his one-time struggle with alcohol an "addiction" — a blunt characterization of his life before he relied on his faith to help turn it around.

"Addiction is hard to overcome," Bush said, speaking Tuesday at a faith-based center that helps former prisoners get job training and other help.

"As you might remember, I drank too much at one time in my life," the president said. "I understand faith-based programs. I understand that sometimes you can find the inspiration from a higher power to solve an addiction problem."

Increasingly, Bush has reflected in candid terms about his days of drinking. Last month, he told some young recovering addicts to stick with their fight against drugs and cited his own experiences with alcohol years ago. He said at that time that "addiction competes for your affection ... you fall in love with alcohol."

Bush decided to quit drinking alcohol after a boozy night in 1986, celebrating his 40th birthday. He went on to win election and re-election as Texas governor before bidding for the White House, where also won two elections. The president is now 61.

Bush spoke Tuesday at the Jericho Program, which helps former prisoners get their lives in order and contribute to society. The stop came as Bush sought to keep some attention on his faith-based programs, one of the themes from his swansong State of the Union address on Monday night.

2. He wasn't an addict...
he was just an ass****. By saying he was an addict and he overcame his addiction, he makes himself out to be a better human being than he is.

6. It's all part of his "legacy building" big picture...
...Junior's on a rampage to "define himself" before he's defined by the public.

It's a fine line between that giant Saddam statue the U.S. Military yanked down and the statue of himself that Bush is currently attempting to create.

5. August 14, 2003: power blackout in NE US
I saw bu$hler's address to the nation that evening. He was drunk on TV. Or, rather, he was still drunk. Anybody who's ever had to "sober up" a friend in college to get him/her somewhere important would instantly recognize the scenario.

The Worthless Little Fuck actually staggered to the podium. His eyes rolled back into his head at least once--and at least once it looked like he was going to fall. Slurred speech, the whole nine yards and it was a recorded speech. That means a "tape" HAD to exist at one time. Funny thing, though, I never saw so much as a CLIP from the address the next day, the day after THAT, or at anytime since.

I guess you had to be there...

9. Like the time it took him 5 hours to travel from Camp David...
to DC in order to address the nation on the day of the Columbia disaster.
Because Camp David certainly has no broadcast facilities. Nope, none at all.
It was a Saturday and that rummy bastard's weekend binge was rudely interrupted. They had to get him somewhat sobered up for public consumption.

11. It's going to be pretty revealing when, after he's finally out, he
has some kind of alcohol incident, either a car crash or alcoholic poisoning, or some drunken altercation.

Right now he has tons of handlers, both private and taxpayer-funded, and they make sure that he at least gives the appearance of sobriety. Those handlers will be severely cut back in 2009, and he will fuck up bigtime, and it will get out.

Too late, true, but I really think it'll happen.
