1. too late, unfortunately.
the bases ARE permanent, and were always meant to be.
Unless the new democratic president vows to tear them down or give them to the Iraqis, as long as they exist we will be there.

3. precisely. Its larger and more fortified than any of Saddam's castles.
its the most expensive "embassy" ever built, and larger than the Vatican.

9. I mean
both a democrat and republican prez would keep "some troops" in Iraq in our forever bases. The top two dems are being disingenuous at best.....

Clinton Would Keep Some Troops In Iraq

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/15/the_skinny/main2572508.shtml

<He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.>

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/

I do not believe John Edwards would. But then that is why the MIC/M$M marginalizes him.

4. Under usual circumstances
Where ever American combat boots set foot, they stay. Been that way since the end of WWII.
