Calling all farmers!! Did you hear what Bush said?
He wants America to buy crops from other countries.

3. Like we weren't importing everything else already.
Great. We'll import cheap, tainted crops from China and all of our farmers can get jobs at Wal-Mart.

4. Does he understand math?
His party's hold on power, outside of Texas, depends on states with 2-4 congreesmen and 2 Senators. Y'know -- all those big squares and rectangles west of the Mississippi and East of the Pacific states.

5. Talking about the food aid US sends to needy countries
Many aid organizations have been saying that it's more effective to buy buy food near the hungry people who need it.
However, US food aid program is primarily a tool to aid US farmers and ship owners (food aid must be transported on US flag ships)

Therefore this proposal, which would help reduce starvation in needy countries, is a non-starter.

6. Sure, why not? Then more farmers can get busy growing all that corn
needed for ethanol. Why fret about the cost of trying to put food on your family or gas on your car tank?

7. No. He wants U.S. to spend aid money buying GM seeds from American-based companies...
(Monsanto and ADM) so third world farmers can grow their own crops to feed their own people. But yes, it was a huge "FUCK YOU" to American farmers, not to mention the damage cross-pollination with GM crops will do to - and have done - to indigenous and staple crops all over the world.

Too bad third world farmers can no longer afford the fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides for those very hungry, Round-Up ready crops. However, since those items are also products of huge U.S. based corporations, I'm sure each of them has their foot in the door and their eye on their fair share of those same aid dollars.

8. I thought I heard him say that also.
I was driving and halfway listening on the radio but I'm sure I heard him say something about the US buying food from overseas.

9. Newsflash!! we ALREADY import a LOT of food..
People "need" seedless grapes in January & navel oranges in July, and watermelons year 'round.

and all those asphalt jungle suburbs pretty much drove out the farmers near towns..that and the ADMs & Cargills snatched up farmland too..

No local farmers, no local produce.. the solution is to import from other countries..

Apples from China, anyone??
