Michael Vick Fighting Dogs Get "Rehab" Care

Almost half of the pit bulls rescued from football star Michael Vick's estate last year were allowed their first media appearance this morning at a Utah animal shelter.

Last year federal agents seized dozens of pit bulls from Bad Newz Kennels, a dog-fighting ring on Vick's 15-acre (6-hectare) property.

As part of the sentence, the football star was ordered to pay almost a million U.S. dollars for care of the dogs.

"Let's face it, people wanted these dogs because they were the Vick dogs, there are pit bulls sitting around in shelters everywhere across the country right now," ASPCA's Zawistowski said.

However Zawistowski is right, there are plenty of pits and pit mixes out there just dying(literally) to be adapted. In fact the situation with pits is more dire than other dogs because many shelters have pit bull killing policies.

So if you're looking for a good dog, a wonderful pet for families, go out and adapt a pit. You won't regret it, and you'll be helping to rehab the reputation of a wonderful breed.

4. This sets a nice pecedent for pits that come from abuse.

Not an automatic kill anymore. Never should have been the case, but such as it is with the ignorant.
