Don't get sick while visiting the US!
Anger over girls' strip searches

Two British girls were sent to an orphanage for 30 hours and strip searched after their mother became ill during a holiday in the US.

Gemma Bray, 15, and her 13-year-old sister Katie also had their clothes taken off them and were asked if they had been abused or were suicidal.

Their mother Yvonne Bray of Appledore, Devon, says their human rights were infringed by the authorities.

This explains why, with the dollar down against other currencies, tourism to the US is as well.

...in the American Police State every action is a crime and every person is a criminal. You're either consuming or you're breaking the law, there is no middle ground.

6. Sounds like they still have the kids.
DHS generally behaves in a criminal manner. Not surprised at all.

10. Why wasn't the Consulate notified?
I'm not sure if it's just a local practice here (being on the border & all), but when something like this happens with a child who is not a citizen, the consulate is notified & they do their best to locate relatives in Mexico or Central America. I'm not sure where the kids end up while they're waiting for their relatives, but it's damn sure not an orphanage where they're strip-searched & video-taped!

It seems to me that this is something that happens from time to time, so why not have someone at the consulate designated as a "foster parent" for this purpose? I realize the consulates are not baby-sitting services, but someone has to look after unaccompanied minors.

12. The Hospital Would Not Let The Kids Stay With Their Mother??
The hospital in New York refused to let the daughters stay with their mother at the hospital?

What is the meaning of THAT?

The mother certainly would have benefittted from having her daughters with her during her hospitalization.

This is an OUTRAGE!!

13. The irony: my sis-in-law won't fly to Thailand because "it's a 3d world country."
My sister is getting married in Thailand in a couple of weeks. My sister in law is a hard-core Bush-loving Fox-watching Republican. And she and my bro are very, very wealthy. But they wont fly to Thailand for the wedding for fear of their safety.

But they live in this fucking Gulag and think it's the tits.

Dear god...what has this country become?

19. A prison
I've known people like that. Absolutely afraid to leave the U.S. for fear of the bogeyman on the other side. The positive side of that is that now that I live OUTSIDE the U.S., I never have to worry about encountering dumbshits like that again.

If you had any doubt, tell me if this is the border fence or a maximum security correctional facility

18. Yes, there IS a British consulate in NYC, I'm sure, and if their phone line
was busy, there's always the British mission to the UN.
