besides the aspect of choice,
besides the aspect of choice..

Do you perceive any difference (vis a vis the argument of mutilation) between circumcision and piercings or tattoos?

They all seem like "ancient, pseudo-barbaric" practices to me.

1. The difference for me
I was circumcised but did not have a choice. Thankfully I don't remember the procedure, I think I was about a month old. I have chosen not to get piercings or tatoos.

5. It was a very tough decision for us
We have no religious reason to circumcise, but I was circumcised, and we had to make that decision for my son when he was born.
ultimately, we gave in to the concept of peer pressure and percentages and had him circumcised, in order not to stand out as different.

I'm still not sure we made the right decision, but it was a damned if you do damned if you don't thing.

the difference would be, I suppose, that other piercings and tattoos in modern american culture are usually to differentiate one from normal, whereas male circumcision is to conform to the accepted normal.

otherwise, not sure of what you're getting at.

9. Honestly- I'm not getting at anything.
Honestly- I'm not getting at anything. Just one of the questions that popped into my head. Knowing that I have much less brain power than most here at DU, I simply thought I'd pose the question and see what happens.

For the record, I'm circumcised, and feel neither better nor the worse for it. I don't have kids so I'm not in a position to make that particular decision.

10. okay, then
since you're not getting at anything my answer is what it is.

Its a weird thing to have to decide, if you are not compelled for religious reasons.

7. I have a tattoo of someone being circumcised, and...
I have artificial foreskin held in place with piercings.

So, for me, the three are indistinguishable.

8. I never got a tattoo because
the last thing My Dad told me as he put me on a plane to Navy Bootcamp back in the 70's - If you come home with a tattoo I'll scrape it off.

11. Not really.
Although I don't know what's so bad about being ancient and pseudo-barbaric.

12. I was circumcised at age four
A massive infection threatened to take my boyhood. It is one of my earliest memories. I remember that the doctor gave me a big piece of candy and I didn't even want it. As for tattoos I think that they distinguish one as a rebel, in a conformist sort of way.
