You're probably hearing a submix that just has the speaker's mic without all the ambient crowd noise... the same as the audio from the infamous "Dean scream" of four years ago. It's a mixed bag. On the one hand, you lose a lot of the sense of crowd reaction, but you can actually hear the speaker.
