Email from Kucinich: RE Congressional Campaign.
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 12:40 PM by fenriswolf
Email from kucinich to all his fans.

Over the past several weeks, the alphabets of corporate media dug their heels in the court system and in the federal agency established to protect and advocate fairness on the public airwaves (FCC), to keep Dennis Kucinich from bringing his ideas – your ideas – to the Democratic Presidential debates: ABC ... NBC ... GE ... MSNBC ... CNN.

On Sunday, another major media corporation, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer newspaper, followed the lead established by the national media, and demanded that Dennis Kucinich should be removed from his office as Congressman in the 10th District of Ohio. Why? "his defiance" of Congressional go-along, get-along policies.

It's time fight back against the powers that are trying to steal your power as citizens of the United States of America.
http://kucinich.us/contribute.html

So far, the corporate media have succeeded in setting the agenda. They have argued, for their own profit-driven and self-serving interests, that private corporations are exempt by the First Amendment from providing full and fair and non-pre-selected information to you, the people -- even though freedom of speech is your right under the U.S. Constitution.

They have manipulated the political and judicial process to ensure that private media corporations will decide what you can hear, what you can see, what you can read, and what you are allowed to know.

But, when media influence over news and information becomes media control of our government, it's time to rise up in protest in defense of ourselves.
http://kucinich.us/contribute.html

Please, watch this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqMYxKkOz8k

Let your family and friends know that it was not enough to keep Congressman Kucinich out of the Presidential debates. Now, they want to remove him from the U.S. Congress.

The only way to fight back is to contribute to his re-election campaign so he can continue to represent you: ending the war in Iraq and bringing those trillions of dollars back home; a national health care system for all Americans, an end to NAFTA and other trade agreements that have outsourced millions of American jobs; restoration of our civil liberties; an environmental program that will ensure our energy independence and create untold new jobs.

Don't let the corporate media take everything away from you. Help re-elect Congressman Dennis Kucinich. The strongest and truest voice you have is the one they are trying the hardest to silence: Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich.

Thank you,
The Kucinich for Congress Campaign

6. Putting Wanting Him Re-Elected Aside, The Context Of The Article Sreams Out 'Crybaby'.
He talks about free speech, but he's crying like some poor me victim over a newspaper endorsing somebody else, as if it's some huge conspiracy? It is things like this that make him look like a lunatic at times. He has to make everything out to be so dramatic and paranoid.

In a campaign season, are we to expect there NOT to be editorials against certain candidates? Is he really that out of touch to think it such an offense when there is? C'mon Dennis, get a grip.

I do respect his positions in a lot of cases and whenever I take online tests I always seem to come out with my marker closest to his, but it isn't his policies that get to me at times; it's his oft times tone of practical delusion.

I noticed that there was no link to the article he was referencing, so I sought it out on my own. I'd appreciate it if someone can confirm it's the one he's in fact talking about. Personally, I thought it was actually a good read and fairly put. It didn't seem over the top and though some may disagree with the positions, it was done in a rational and reasonable way. I can totally see where the author was coming from and I can see why they'd possibly push for some change.

Is this the one?

21. editorial pages aren't supposed to be "fair and balanced"
Now, if the editor's beef is distorting news coverage as well, that's not good. But on the other hand, its protected by the first amendment. As the Supreme Court has held, "A responsible press is an undoubtedly desirable goal, but press responsibility is not mandated by the Constitution and like many other virtues it cannot be legislated."

but I do see that this one company owns a bunch of different newspapers all over the country. I would call this company a corporation. As far as what control they have I do not know. The question was if the newspaper was owned by a corporation and it does seem to be.

25. even newspapers that are independenty owned are still owned by corporations generally
That's why I think the term "corporate media" is a bad term. It suggests that the form of ownership is the problem rather than conflicts that might arise from cross-ownership of media with other businesses or problems associated with concentration of control.

28. well with "media" corporations
i think the issue of interest is that you have a wide range of avenues to push information down. Or push personal opinion down. We don't really have a way of know if this corporation is pushing its interests on the local newspapers and thus distributing its world view or idiology to the masses. Their is no real way to tell if we are getting an unbiased opinion or not, the only way I suppose would be to do a study of all the outlets that are owned and see if the particular views are parroted in all the publications. What it comes down to is people are weary of institutions that control multiple forms or outlets of media as they control alot of the talking points currently happening in the news and can also control the frame of how that news is viewed. In short I don't know if it's bad that the newspaper the "plainsdealer" is owned by a corporation that owns alot of other local newspapers but I would definatly look for other Point of views from a media source not owned by the same company.

7. This will be highly unpopular, but I agree with the Cleveland Plains Dealer.
Hold on just a minute before the "tarring and feathering" and let me explain.

Kucinich is a great voice to have in Congress, he is right on many issues, and he is looking out for the little guy in this country. However, while I like the fact he is in Congress, I wouldn't want him as MY congressman.

Why? Because, what I want from my congressman is someone who is effective working for the interests of my local area. Dennis's viewpoint is national and global. He doesn't compromise, he doesn't build alliances, he hasn't gotten anything passed through Congress, and he hasn't gotten much done for his local district.

In congress, in order to be effective, you must build relationships. You agree to support someone else's bill, if they agree to support yours. You build a base of support BEFORE submitting legislation. You have to bring something back to your voters.

So, while I like that he's there, I'm glad he's not my representative.

Just my opinion, flame away at me!

8. don't know how he is on local issues
I do not know how he votes on local issues or how supportive he is. I would think since he has experiance being alderman, mayor, etc he would be a good local supporter of issues. As far as alliances I agree not alot of people want to take the stances DK makes, he is uncompromising and unyeilding but i would think that we need to address the people who do not sign onto his bills. He is doing what the people want, why our representatives don't sign on with him I do not know but I think it is a fault of theirs not of kucinich. He has a huge base of support if you just look at his stance on issues and the american people he inadvertanly has a huge following just because of the votes he represents.

Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 01:30 PM by cobalt1999
He does have a large number of supporters nationwide too. It's great he is in congress, but, to quote Tip O'Neill "All politics is local".

You aren't going to be an effective congressman unless you can compromise and build support for your proposals, that's just not his strong suit.

I was expecting some hugely unfair hit piece or something. But the article was actually quite intelligent in the position it put forth, and a lot of it made sense. I can totally see why people would feel that way and was completely surprised that the article was as sound in its logic as it was, when compared to the tone in the Kucinich email.

Like I said, Dennis is great to have in congress in someone else's district, so I can emphasize with the Cleveland district.

I think Dennis is flying at too high an altitude for a mere congressman. The priority for a congressman should be district, state, nation, international. Dennis seems focused on international and national issues to the exclusion of getting more mundane and local topics passed, so I can understand the fact Cleveland may want to change.

*** on edit: It's great to see you back at it again!

15. His Record Speak For Itself
I've long asked for people to cite a bill that Kucinich has led through the Congress. I got what great things he said or how he's the "only one" who understands issues...that's well and good...but I never got a response to my question. The impeachment bills? And where are those? I would submit that Congressman Wexler has done as much, if not more...and now has taken the lead on this. But that's not what's involved here.

If Kucinich is that solid of a Congressman, he shouldn't have a thing to fear. Usually, if a machine is gonna take someone down, they line up behind one solid candidate, not four...that's usually done to dillute a challenge (like in Illinois 3). For the most part he's been an absent Congressman over the past year and, as you state well, if he's not doing the main job he's been elected to, then he needs to be challenged.

Now do we dare wanna bet that if he had gotten a positive endorsement, then we'd hear how this proves how effective he is. Funny how those things are.

Who knows, maybe this could liberate DK...if he's that serious to be the real agent of change, then he can work fulltime in building up an organization. Sure didn't hurt Howard Dean and the DFA.

is that he does a lot for the district. You don't hear about it in the national media, but he has always been involved in local projects and issues. He has good district office staff. He can walk and chew gum at the same time.

19. One of his challengers said in a video that he was running
because he reached his limit at being effective on a local level, there is only so much one can do, the big problems need to be changed in DC.

I think Dennis figured that out years ago and has run up against the powerful interests in DC and others within our own party.

And when some residents and their children are paying for this invasion in the years to come maybe they'll understand the connection and the reason to not 'go along' with policies that hurt in the long run.

IMO we need more people like Dennis, not less.

Cleveland soldiers died in Iraq. Also, Kucinich has only missed 11% of the votes according to the Washington Post website tracking members of Congress. One of the best records in the Congress. The Plain Dealer has had a fit with Kucinich ever since he stopped the Muny electricity take over to their business crony friends. Kucinich did not campaign for president at Clevelands expense; but with outsourcing , he took Cleveland along with.

What we dont have, is a chance of winning an election that has already been stolen.
Our goals should be about collective good, solidarity and doing the right thing NOW.
Disregard the jackals and low-powered psycho thugs. Dont be distracted or deterred by
another stolen election. Look forward to the inevitable change.
The more things remain the same, the more they must change.

but treat the general election like a primary, you can either vote for one or the other but weather you like it or not one of them is going to run "your" country. I cannot think of any repub candidate that I believe would have a worse term then any or our dems. This country might still go downhill but I imagine that under the dems it would not go as fast. If people cannot recognize kucinich and gravel as being more important then the top 3 then I have no hopes for the green party or an independant getting above single digits in the general.

And the actions of the corporacrats in the last two months put the lie to our "democratic" process and the thin dime of difference. Censoring anti-war discussions, empowering nuclear contractors, and all with the generic, non-committal promise of "change". I think they have delivered change all right, a final, killing blow to our illusions. If theres any value to my vote, it will be as that one last act of defiance.

so I take it you have completly lost faith and are either planning on leaving the country, going underground or submitting? Not being snarky just saying if its come to that for you, to not believe you have an iota of power, or that it will not matter if hillary or mccain is in office then those are your three logical choices.

Faith is certainly the correct word for how people choose their candidates. Cant say leaving works for me, my roots go too far back. Underground? How about ground level? Submitting? Not my scene.
I never had an iota of power in this "representative" form of government, and thats surely no accident. Ive been trying to stay close to the local needs of the needy, but thats wearing thin too.
I suggest working on local issues, if you can stand the pricks and general mediocrity Ive faced.
People suck, and I dont need an Etch-a-Sketch to prove it.
