Sebelius to give Dem response to SOTU, meanwhile her son peddles a game called "Don't Drop The Soap!
"The son of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is peddling a board game titled "Don't Drop the Soap," a prison-themed game he created as part of a class project at the Rhode Island School of Design."

6. I have no doubt that if the son of a Republican governor sold this, DUers would
rake him over the coals for it, and we would never hear the end of it on DU - people would still occasionally refer to it 17 years from now. But since it's the son of a Democratic governer, I guess, anything goes...

9. I think you're wrong
that a college kid something culturally popular, but yet vaguely offensive wouldn't be as big a to-do as you imagine.

2. So? Is There Supposed To Be Some Issue Here?
I'm not sure what you're getting at.

3. I guess I have different sensibilities than DUers... after all
DU's favorite film is "The Big Lebowski," which I could not sit through, and when my neighbors screened it last summer, only 4 out of 30 people remained until the end. Oh well, to each his own. I find the game mentioned to be tacky, tasteless, crude and insulting - but if that's your thing, go for it.

4. I don't find rape to be particularly funny, either.
I *do* love The Big Lebowski, though. :)

5. So you shouldn't buy the game
I wouldn't either.

I'm not sure what point you're making, though. ARe you saying Sebelius should be pulled because of this?

7. OK I'll spell it out.
I'm surprised by the indifference here. I have absolutely no doubt that if the son of a Republican governor sold this game, DUers would rake him over the coals for it, and we would never hear the end of it on DU - people would still occasionally refer to it 17 years from now. But since it's the son of a Democratic governer, I guess, anything goes...

8. So what do you want done about it?
Should Sebelius be yanked? Or do you just want some outrage?

13. Well, DU DOES in general have an issue with it
In fact, IIRC there was a thread locked over the term "Don't drop the soap" because it makes light of prison rape - guess some would say it would be an equivalent to a phrase like "Don't wear too short a skirt"....

But alas, people can only be misogynist and not maleogynist ;)

10. You're right, Bob. Huckabee's kid kills a dog years ago and people here
are outraged...

A Democrat's kid designs a game like this and the Dem actually praises it and there's no reaction.

14. The issue isn't the action...it's the approval.
1) REPUB's kid tortures a dog years ago. REPUB makes no statement to defend the action. DU is outraged.

2) DEM's kid designs this game now. DEM publicly says she's proud of his creativity. DU ignores it.

We're not talking about the kids' actions...it's about how the parents (the actual politicians) reacted. The Dem gets a pass here...and that's a glaring double standard.

11. While his mother has been a good advocate
and ally her son does this. Damn. He really is a nice kid but he certainly does not get it. Perhaps we will have to send him a little mail from the coalition.
