"I'm not running as a Hispanic candidate"
what kind of an impact will Richardson's Mexican heritage have on his candidacy?

Richardson finds gaining support among Hispanics is no sure thing

By Lesley Clark
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON - Though he says he's not seeking the presidency as the "Hispanic candidate," New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is proving a rock star among the Spanish-language press, and Democrats hope his presence among presidential contenders will fire up Hispanic voters.

Still, his popularity isn't translating into unified support among prominent Hispanic Democrats, many of whom have signed on with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, despite voicing pride in Richardson's candidacy.

"I'm not running as a Hispanic candidate," Richardson said. "Hispanic voters should not vote for me just because I'm Hispanic. They should vote for me because of my record of getting things done."

He leaves it to others - recently, a number of Spanish-language reporters who cover the Spanish-fluent governor as closely as any first-tier candidate - to suggest that his status as a potential Hispanic history maker has been overshadowed by the media fascination with Clinton and Obama.

3. I hope he can make inroads with Mexican Americans
Much of the Mexican-American Community has been baited by anti-abortion and gay bigotry of the Repukes. I hope Mr. Richardson shows us how to reach out to them and better show them we have their core interests at heart (immigration, worker's rights, wage law, OSHA issues, school finance, school access, etc).

5. Kos ran a piece entitled: Is Bill Richardson really Mexican?

The start of 2007 kicked off one of the most diverse Presidential Primaries in our nations history. Or so we thought. Over the last few weeks we've been forced to ask ourselves some very important questions about the candidates running for President. Questions such as Is Barack Obama really black? Does Hilary Clinton secretly have a Penis? And who the hell is Chris Dodd? The answers were shocking!

Well New Mexico's Democratic Governor Bill Richardson also wants to be President. But in order to get to the White house he's gonna have to run through a vast political desert, slip passed his opponents defenses undetected and climb the wall that stands between him and his dreams for a brighter future... Either that or convince whoever wins the nomination to let him ride in the back of the ticket as the Vice Presidential Candidate.

"My father was very proud of his American son, and my mother was very proud of her Mexican son. Their pride was passed down to me, and I grew up honoring both the United States and Mexico," Richardson wrote in his biography, "Between Worlds: The Making of an American Life."

9. With a name like Richardson, he must be telling people he's Hispanic
People who don't know him would not "know" he's Hispanic if he did not tell them.. He cannot constantly "remind" people that he's Hispanic, and then claim that he's not running AS a Hispanic.

I don't care if a candidate is from Neptune, and worships a blue tree frog named Edna... I only care about what they think and how they could make MY life better :)
