Former State Rep. Charles "Chuck" Scheid (R-Woodstock) is charged with income tax evasion and failure to file an income tax return, according to a news release issued Thursday by the state attorney general's office.
Charles Scheid said in 2005 that a house fire had destroyed his records and vowed to clear his name.
The indictment alleges that Scheid failed to file an income tax return for the 2005 tax year and evaded paying taxes due for tax year 2003. He is one of several lawmakers caught up in a state crackdown on past-due taxes.
Scheid faces up to five years in prison on the tax evasion charge, and up to one year imprisonment on the other charge, Russ Willard, a spokesman for the attorney general's office, wrote in the release.
HA! Another Pub crook caught! GEE, are we going to have to build new prisons just to house them all?
