In responding to posts on DU, has anyone else noticed
that when reading a long thread, you get confused as to whom is responding to whom and it really does get confusing particlularly when the discussion becomes heated.

I have found out the best way to get your messge to the person it is directed to is to open with the name of the person you are sending the message to.

It may save confusion and also may avoid getting yourself in a confrontation with someone your message is not directed to.

1. Excellent idea!
Thanks!

That happened to me last week: it turned into a "Who's on first?" routine.

3. Nice post, Hitler.
Oh sorry - wrong person.

;)

But seriously, I've never really had a problem with it, IMO DU is much easier to use than any other blog I've come across.

4. Unfortunately, I find that happening to me a great deal and
it gets very confusing so I leave the topic and go on to something else.
Perhaps it is because I am dyslexic!!!

5. Bobbieo:
Fair enough.

If it works for you should do that (address the reply to the poster it's meant for).

That seems to be how it's done on most other blogs I've come across.

7. That's what I do too, in long threads. It's much easier. I usually scan a "view all" thread
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 01:48 PM by in_cog_ni_to
and that opens all the posts on the thread, then as I scroll down reading, I can just post to whomever I wish. I do like to scan the titles first though. If something catches my eyes, then I'll click on "view all" and scan down to read.:)
