Pay attention, the only people who lose today will be the people who sell, the people who buy are going to be very happy campers down the road.

2. Personally, I'd buy heavily in any drug manufacturer that makes antacids
I have mine ready.

3. Unless the selling continues tomorrow
and for the rest of the week and the week after that. "Catch a falling knife" doesn't always work. Once the knife has stopped falling, then it is OK to pick up. Good luck with your timing.

4. Remember the market drop after 9/11? I was able to retire 8 years early because of it.
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 08:05 AM by ThomWV
The market collapsed after 9/11 (when it reopened a couple of days later) and we took every dime of cash we could lay our hands on and bought everything we could. The result was I retired at 57 rather than at 65.

6. I've been thinking about that....
I have quite a good amount of money in the market but unless I was planning on selling today or this week or even this month or year (which I most definitely wasn't) none of the companies I own stock in are going to go out of business or go bust or anything so eventually they'll crawl back up over time.

But I was thinking about buying a few things as well to see what happens.

9. That is exactly the position I was in back in 2001
Then the planes hit the towers. Of course the market shut down but it was obvious what was going to happen when it reopened. We gathered up all the cash we could and then waited. The market opened and as predicted it dropped like a stone. We did not go short on anything, just waited. Then 4 days after the market reopened (I believe that is how long it was) we bought and a year later realized that my retirement date had moved forward by years. I also took money I had put in savings for my grandaughters' education. I am happy to report that they should be able to easily make it through school without financial stress on their parents because of it.

7. Careful buying is the answer. For every seller out there, there is a buyer.
Panicked people sell.
