The Huffington Post
Jon Soltz

At the very beginning of this year, right here on HuffPost, I warned that signs were pointing towards military action against Iran. It didn’t get much attention at the time, and reporters and television producers weren’t interested in talking about it. What a difference six weeks makes.

The BBC reports that we are, indeed, planning for military strikes against Iran.

Meanwhile, the President seems to found his reason to attack Iran, pinning American deaths in Iraq on the Iranians (I’ll get to that point in a moment and why it doesn’t mean we need to launch a new war). Of course, we’ve seen this before, in 2002. Back then, an overwhelming majority on Capitol Hill told us, “Hey, don’t worry, we’re not going to go to war with Iraq. We just need to show strength so Saddam backs down.”

Well, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice… uh… won’t get fooled again.

As far as I'm concerned, NOTHING is more important than stopping bushco from attacking Iran. NOTHING.

8. We need well more than 15,000 signatures.
People need to stop falling into the HilObam soap opera and voice their opinions about life and death over Geffen's blathering.

13. How's this?
President Bush,

When you took our country to war with Iraq I watched with shock as your administration refused to permit the U.N. inspectors to complete their job, ignored the informed council of many military and foreign policy experts, and brushed aside the wishes of a vast number of our fellow citizens,. This would all be all old news, except I'm watching you do this again. Of course, Iran is the new target.

All of this drum beating that your administration is doing today, will never excuse your sadly lacking exploration of any alternatives to war in Iran. Saying that you believe in diplomacy is not the same as actually pursuing diplomatic avenues.

There are those who find my effort to reach out to you as useless, just a waste of time. Perhaps that is so; however, considering how important the subject, war, then as a citizen, it is my duty to write this. No. No to war in Iran.

As a citizen I demand that our country develop a new policy that moves beyond bombs, and instead seeks sane political and diplomatic solutions. Your current policy does not work, will never work, and needs to be replaced by a policy worthy of our great country and our people.

14. Off our asses indeed!
No excuse for not clicking the link and sending a letter. Nothing could be easier and it's SO important.

But what's really important is passing this around to others. Post the logo to your your websites. Add it to your e-mail signatures. Most DUers would be fuckin' AMAZED how unaware Joe and Jane Voter are about what Bush is planning for Iran. Once it's a done deal, and it may be too late already, it'll be impossible to stop before thoudands, and possibly hundreds of thousands are killed. We have got to try to stop it NOW.

15. I know there are still some skeptics
but for anyone who is worried about all the saber rattling against Iran NOW is the time for us to spring into action. This is approaching the end game and the end game we are approaching is nothing I think any of us want to see happen again. If we found that ending a war with Iraq is difficult, wait until we want to end a war with a nation that will not want that war ended until after they get the revenge they feel is coming to them after an American attack, or American supported attack by Israel. It will be near impossible for us to back out of that one.

Wes Clark is not an alarmist and Wes Clark has forcast every step that has happened in the middle east correctly for the last four years. Right now he says the defaualt setting indicates approaching war with Iran if we the people don't act now to change that course.

We have run out of time for procrastinating people. Now is the time for us to act.

16. Those skeptics should wake up - because:
Dick Cheney is setting the bar as low as he can.

“You get various estimates of where the point of no return is,” Cheney said, identifying nuclear terrorism as the greatest threat to the world. “Is it when they possess weapons or does it come sooner, when they have mastered the technology but perhaps not yet produced fissile material for weapons?”

http://www.indianexpress.com/sunday/story/24184.html

Stop the madness!

Cheney refuses to even talk to Iran. And he goes around rattling sabers, and making veiled threats. With warmongers like Dick Cheney threatening them, is it any wonder why the Iranians have increased their production of enriched uranium?

Help to stop this madness. Visit:

http://www.stopiranwar.com/

and send letters to the editor, US Congress, and President Bush from there. Let's organize everywhere to prevent another unnecessary war.

19. What I say to the skeptics is
Fine, be skeptical. But it only takes about a minute, maybe two, to visit the site and send the letters. Maybe another minute to cut and paste from your address book, or to bring it up at the water cooler tomorrow. No one has to be alarmist, but it can't hurt to give friends and coworkers a chance to think about the possibilities for themselves.

Maybe we're wrong. Even Wes Clark, who's been right in so many predictions and who has contacts all thru the Pentagon, elsewhere in the administration, and in the governments of our allies, could be wrong this time. I mean, it's conceivable.

But if he is and Bush doesn't attack Iran, what have we lost?

Would it be better find ourselves a year from now, with another 3000 soliders and 100,000 Iranian civilians dead, wondering, did I do everything I could have to prevent this from happening?
