Bush bloggers think DEMS will back down because of Lieberman's threats---DON'T!
The rethug bloggers are banking on DEMS quivering in their end-the-funding-for-the-war boots as Loserman threatens to throw a tantrum and switch parties.

example here:

That pretty much throws down the gauntlet - it is either continue support for the war, or lose their Senate majority. We'll have to see if Lieberman's position includes opposition to Murtha's treasonous "slow bleed" concept...but my bet is that it does.

My bet is that the Democrats will back down...

This is a cross roads for the DEM leadership. We The People spoke in loud chorus last November that we want this Iraq madness to end.

After almost 4 years of unchecked executive abuse of power, the DEMS can actually do something! :kick:

We compromise for Loserman this time, then what about the next time he threatens, and the next? I'd far prefer to see our DEM leaders vote their hearts with the boldness and personal conviction that we expect - Lieberman be damned! Even if we lose Senatorial majority over it, IMHO we would be in a much stronger place come 08 because we will be on record as doing the people's business who in large numbers oppose the escalation. NOT backing down will earn us more votes in 08 then compromising to Lieberman now. And many out there think letting Joe do his thing, might actually help the DEMS in the long run.

As evidenced here:

Ok DEMS, time to crank up some Tom Petty!

I Won't Back Down

Well I won't back down
No I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down
No, I stand my ground
Won't get turned around
And I keep this world from draggin me down
But I stand my ground and I won't back down
I won't back down
Hey baby there ain't no easy way out hey now
I'll stand my ground and I wont back down
Well I know what's right I got just one line
In a world that keeps on pushing me around
Well I stand my ground and I won't back down
hey baby hey baby hey now I'll stand my ground
And I won't back down
hey baby there ain't no easy way out
hey now I won't back down
hey baby there ain't no easy way out
hey now i'll stand my ground and
I won't back down no I won't back down

2. I say call his bluff!!!
Even IF Lieberman makes good on his tantrum, he'll be in a minority on so many things that the Cons would be trying to push through. The Cons can't be trusted either and within a week he'll be threatening to switch again to end up being a Senator with zero power, influence, or caucus. As soon as the week-long celebration is done, the Cons will close the doors on him before he leaves his house to board the train.

As soon as the Democrats call his bluff, his political career is done and he has only himself to blame.

5. One confused asshole holding America hostage
Lieberman was rejected by his constituents and now he is taking it out on the democrats, our military, our country and the world. Only Lieberman stands between the war and the will of the American people. Its definitely all about Joe.

6. First off, it ain't gonna happen.
Lieberman knows the political reality - right now, he gets on TV any time he wants, his every utterance is Big News, Republicans and Democrats are both kissing his ass.

What happens if he jumps the fence? He goes to the back of the line, loses his chair seat, becomes just another wingnut. He'd be news for about a week, then he'd be one of many Republicans who are wrong on everything.

His ego is too big to give up the smooching his ass is getting.

Second, I'm pretty sure that the leadership positions are not subject to change if Lieberman changes parties - so the worst outcome of Lieberman jumping is that instead of two years of presidential vetoes, we'd have two years of Congressional gridlock.

Third, Bush's War is not going to suddenly get popular before 2008, and anyone one the side of Bush is up for an ass-whupping in the '08 elections. The chances are good that Dems will pick up even more seats in both houses of Congress, and maybe even the White House, in '08. Where does that leave a Republican Lieberman? Further down the Congressional food-chain than he ever dreamed of being.

Let him bolt if he wants. But I'd bet ten bucks that he's bluffing and won't go anywhere.
