Today is the day. We have a great chance here. A chance to show the corporate media that they can not choose our candidate for us. A chance to help John Edwards get his message out to all of America.

I am very excited about this and have been working on something to share my excitement. I make jewelry and have been making it and selling it to stores and boutiques for years. I've made a few pairs of earrings that I thought might appeal to DUers-all the dreamers and peace-lovers I have come to love and respect these last few years. So, I'm going to hold a raffle for everyone who donates to John Edwards today, January 18th.

These are scanned pictures of the actual prizes. They are much prettier in real-life. All the earrings are on sterling silver shepherd-hook earwires.


Here's how it works:

-Go to John Edwards' website and make a donation https://www.johnedwards.com/action/contribute/form
-Come back to this thread and say -"I made a donation to John Edwards today!"
-Tell me in your message which prize is your first choice and which is your second choice

That's all you have to do. I'm doing this on the honor system-if you say you donated, you are entered to win. Sometime after midnight Friday, I will put everyone's name who posted "I donated today" into a bowl and draw the winners. The first person will get their first choice, the second person will get their first choice if it is still available and so on. If you already donated today before seeing this thread you can still enter. Just post that you donated in this thread. If you are a guy, and you want to enter, but don't want the earrings, you can pick someone else on the thread to give your prize to (or give them to your Mom or sweetie for Valentine's Day.)

I'll notify the winners sometime Saturday by PM and will make a thread Saturday announcing the winners. I will ship your prize out on Monday.

What a wonderful gesture and idea. I understand about trying to photograph jewelry, since I also making jewelry and have a difficult time shooting good pics.

25. Photographing jewelry is the hardest thing, isn't it?

That was another reason I picked these-because they were flat enough to scan. I do a lot with lampwork beads but I can't scan them. I wish I could photograph my jewelry, I've tried for years and never like the results.

The dream-catchers are a lot prettier in person. I had a hard time getting them to lay right on the scanner-they kept moving when I shut the lid.

I just recently got a digital camera. It takes extremely good pics, but whenever I try to take pics they look just awful. Oh well.

When you scan them do you use a sheet over them??? I used to use this trick quite a bit when I was scanning strange objects. Depending on what effect I was trying to achieve I would use either white or black. Of course Photoshop comes in handy to deleting backgrounds.

A macro filter is really a great investment for jewelry photos. I got one for my Kodak Z650 for $30 at Ritz Camera. It's a Quantaray #10 close up filter. You should be able to find one to fit your camera. You may have to use a step up or step down ring to get it to fit but they are inexpensive. If you have any questions I'll try to answer them.

Great idea Pamela! I like #1, #3 and #2 in that order.

I contributed $50 this morning - gave $50 after debate before NH vote - will add another $50 after next debate, etc. As long as John Edwards keeps speaking as the non-DLC candidate and for the "people", not the corporations and corporate candidates I'll keep giving.

I like that he intends to keep fighting to the Convention - hoping his message gets out and that the country wakes up. Hillary is compromised because of the supporters she mined! I could have shaken her hand if I had $2300 to give. She was performing in front of her moneyed supporters about 10 miles from me.

Obama is a great speaker and sunny (like Reagan) but where's the beef? We'd have to elect an impossible amount of real Liberals to help him accomplish anything. Republicans don't get Kumbaya!

It's really hard to photograph jewelry and, with exception of the dreamcatchers, I rarely make two pairs of earrings that are alike so I would need lots of photos. I mostly do it as a hobby these days but at one point I had over 50 store accounts in 8 states. I'm not fond of the in-person selling aspect so I might re-think the website idea soon. There have been some good suggestions in this thread for photographing jewelry that I'm going to check out.

Pretty much any metal on all the earrings is sterling silver-even the spacer beads. The headpins are stainless steel for strength but they just hold the beads and aren't really exposed. She shouldn't have a problem with them.

I have been undecided all this time, really unable to choose between the Dem candidates, and so I haven't given any cash to anybody yet. But I've been leaning towards Edwards the past week or so, and I definitely feel he needs to get some more exposure. So I just donated to Edwards.

I absolutely love your earrings. #2, then #3 are my favorites. If I don't win, I would love to purchase a pair of peace earrings from you if you have more.
