Panel kills gay marriage bill
House Speaker Roy Cohee, R-Casper, cast the tie-breaking vote in committee Thursday to kill a bill that would have barred Wyoming from recognizing gay marriages from other states.

Wyoming already has a statute that says marriage must be between a man and a woman. Massachusetts is the only state that currently grants marriage licenses to same-sex couples; others permit civil unions, but the proposed law only pertained to gay marriages.

The House Rules Committee was evenly split on the bill when Cohee, who's also the committee chairman, voted against the measure. The bill had already been approved by the Senate.

Residents from all over the state and both sides of the issue told the committee the topic is extremely important.

1. A Republican did this? Amazing.
You won't hear it from many Wyomingites but there are a LOT of gay cowboys there.

2. Glad a Republican saw the flaw in this...
...while Bush and his cohorts trample our rights and shred the Constitution, others attempt to amend it so it can be a tool to bludgeon and deprive others of rights. These people MUST be opposed, because they won't stop at just "the gays".

3. Just as soon as gay marriages are allowed, I will be out of my marriage. I will run to the
first man who will have me. Not only that, I will recruit others to my new "lifestyle". There will be no stopping me. You will be assimilated.
