Waxman to Investigate Presidential Library Funding (Influence Peddling?)

Full Committee Business Meeting, immediately followed by Full Committee hearing on Reforming the Presidential Library Funding Disclosure Process
Wednesday, February 28, 2007, 10:00 a.m., in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building

It will be interesting to see the documents that emerge as the hearing nears, and to crosswalk donors to major contract awards during the Bush Years.

FYI...

2. A Lot of the Docs Might Be in Arabic
My recollection is that the House of Saud was an enormous contributor to the Bush and Clinton monuments to self-aggrandizement libraries.

3. Interesting Point: Should Foreign Contributions Be Prohibited?
There have been past efforts to amend the act covering Presidential libraries.

In 2002, this issue was taken up (some say as a dig to President Clinton): http://www.fas.org/sgp/congress/2002/h020502.html

The current law: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode44/usc_sec_44_00002112----000-.html

To prevent the appearance that foreign contributions might influence foreign policy, maybe those should be precluded?
