Bush: "I'm Sure People View Me As A War Monger"
Source: The Huffington Post

..."I have talked to these leaders face to face," he said. "I have asked them point blank, 'Do you understand how difficult these issues are?' Yes. 'Are you prepared to make the painful political compromises?' They say they are."

Despite that optimism, the president also said that he does feel misunderstood in the Middle East.

"My image is 'Bush wants to fight Muslims.' And, yes, I'm concerned about it. Not because of me, personally. I'm concerned because I want most people to understand the great generosity and compassion of Americans," he said.

"I'm sure people view me as a war monger and I view myself as peacemaker," the president said. "They view me as so pro-Israeli I can't be open-minded about Palestinian peace, and yet I'm the only president ever to have articulated a two-state solution. And you just have to fight through stereotypes by actions."

12. Exactly
"Are you prepared to make the painful political compromises?"

Translation: "Are you prepared to give me everything I want and more, in return for me not burning your country to the ground?"

Damn, our "leadership" sounds more like the Soviets every day.

44. His incredible demands
seem tailored to be ignored by the ME. they are insane by their standards and cannot literally be taken seriously. Bush's advisers told him to say theses things for our consumption and perhaps also to AVERT any real dealing that they might otherwise sucker the Grand High Emperor into during some walk in the sand dunes. The MSM does not hear the complete stupidity of these "bold" statements.

Also, this whole trip is to get the ME off his back and himself off the hook for Iran. He sets IMPOSSIBLE, undiplomatic conditions that imply they must unconditionally submit and then he will bomb their enemies. This is a political trip where the most obvious planned point is to make damned sure nothing happens at all unless the various actors want to simply do him a real favor or two.

Ugly, ugly trip. And remember this is all carefully planned, not Bush himself spouting out. he goes with a firewall of non-starters and smackdowns to hold the entire ME at bay. Of course the MSM makes itself look in fact incredibly stupid in taking the stuff at face value with rational value.
