Glen Beck on CNN spreading the same old lies about universal health care.
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 05:47 PM by glarius
He just went on and on about the fact that, according to him, this would mean that the government would run the hospitals. Then he said just look at England or Canada or anywhere else where there's that system. HE'S FULL OF SHIT! As a Canadian who lives under the Universal healthcare system, let me tell you......THE GOVERNMENT HAS ZERO SAY IN THE RUNNING OF THE HOSPITALS! Neither do they choose our doctors or recommend treatment. ALL THE GOVERNMENT DOES IS PAY THE BILLS!!!PERIOD!!!!!
We do not have a perfect system, but it is far superior to the let the marketplace dictate system of the U.S.A. In a recent poll 93% of our citizens said they wanted to keep our system. That should answer the question, unless you all think 93% of Canadians are stupid. I truly wish your country could enjoy the health care system most of the rest of the civilized world has.
P.S...I just got so angry watching Beck spouting his lies I had to post this.

1. He should ask our military about their govt. run health care...
They'd tell him how damn good it is.

Glen Beck is such an asshole.

8. I'm a veteran
ANd when I was in 1985-1991, our health care SUCKED! I waited at the hospital for 14 hours just for an x-ray of my broken wrist. After another 2 hours of waiting after that, I went to a private clinic to have it set and put in a cast and paid out the nose for it. Oh, and then I got into alot of trouble for it. I could go on like mentioning having to buy dental inscurance for my family but I won't.

10. We had excellent care when we were in...
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 06:18 PM by cynatnite
It was 1986-1990. I was in Germany and Ft. Ord, Ca. Husband was in a little longer than I was. He was at Ft. Benning, Ft. Ord and Germany. We never had that kind of wait time and got excellent care.

We knew very few folks who weren't happy with the medical care.

on edit: I was pregnant and injured once while in the Army. I also had to see an oral surgeon, too. Husband was sick a couple of times.

7. I'm watching him because Blitzer has him on.
I'm upset because it's quite possible he will influence people in your country to believe his lies.

9. pff
Anyone who has been burned by our system with half a brain is pushing for single payer. Honestly, the thing that does the most damage here in America are the words "socialized medicine"

Hell, I don't even go to the doctor anymore- I've been misdiagnosed and treated incorrectly more times than I like to think about. I want single payer because I want SOMETHING out of my taxes other than another invasion every couple of years.

3. But the RW nutjobs say you have to pay 90% of your income to taxes
and wait in line for 18 months for a checkup?

What do you say to those who think you are overtaxed and under served?

Have you had long waits?

Do you have oppressive taxes?

6. To answer your questions:
There are always people who think they pay too much taxes...everywhere...We are NOT under served. My brother has had successful and timelly treatment for colon cancer, skin cancer and has leukemia in recession. He is enjoying good health and this all cost him zero. He had none of the stress of trying to find a health provider who would cover all his problems. The fact that he is a Canadian citizen is all that matters. We do have waiting periods for elective surgery, but important or urgent stuff is done right away. I know of nobody who has died from lack of treatment.
Our standard of living is one of the highest in the world.

13. Great assessment. Thanks,
Meanwhile, the US has 100,000 preventable deaths a year due to our piss-poor system.

5. He is the most fearful man on TV
maybe ever. A person going on the air telling people to be afraid is not only shameful but treasonous. He acts as if he will be blown-up any minute. Where are the news men of old who told americans to be courageous?

12. his book is odd
For whatever reason my GF bought it. The funnest part is how many full page pictures it has. It's a short book and yet he apparently couldn't fill even that little amount of a book and resorted to lots of filler. There's a fun part on his alcohol abuse and failed marriages. He seems sort of a depressing sort of person and has no ability to let facts get in the way of a pointless argument.

14. Our premiums just went up another $44 / month.
We don't know where we can get the extra money. We need Universal healthcare now for every man, woman and child.

15. That is another thing that is misunderstood about out system.....we DO NOT PAY PREMIUMS!
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 02:07 PM by glarius
Our taxes take care of everything. We do not have monthly premiums or any extras to pay. It is quite comforting to know that when you get sick or need an operation you need only get yourself to a doctor and everything will be taken care of.
P.S....As I'm typing this I hear Huckabee on TV ranting on about needing to change your Constitution "so it's in God's standards." These religious zealots really bug me. They are constantly ranting on about God and Jesus, but if Jesus were on earth now, they would call him a socialist and probably want nothing to do with him. He didn't exactly associate with people they would approve of and no doubt he would be for Universal (socialized) health care.

P.S. Again.....I have posted about our health care system a few times on DU. It just frustrates me to see how the right-wing spinners distort the truth of Canadian, British, German, French etc. health care.
