I just read on one post that the debate tomorrow could be cancelled because of it.

I think I missed the memo...

1. A special rule allows certain workers in Las Vegas a better chance to participate than other voters.

9. The rule, which included canceling early and absentee voting, was made in May.
I dunno who in Nevada backed it back then.

20. The problem is that no one OBJECTED to the rule until the endorsements came out. Hmm...
The casino workers made a deal with party--and I think it was a good one. They work staggered hours, are overwhelmingly monority, and traffic on the LV Strip is a bleeding NIGHTMARE; it can take an hour to go one mile any time of day.

It's not a "special" rule--it's a fair one. I've no dog in this fight since I will probably support Edwards, but you are seeing it from a narrow perspective. I'm seeing it as a Union supporter (both Unions) who is well acquainted with the Vegas strip.

The lawsuit is a sham and even many teachers are objecting strenuously to it.

15. Which had her campaign had any problems with it could have been
addressed months ago.

Coincidence that the suit was filed 2 days after the CWU endorsed Obama? I doubt it.

3. or
the NV party is trying to extend the causcus to the strip to allow MORE people to participate by allowing casinos to run remote causcus spots but Hillary thinks that crowd will go against her and she wants to shut it down.

6. So is she trying to limit democracy or just trying to make sure
that everyone has an equal opportunity to vote? Sorry to be so dense, I didn't realize that anybody could caucus there, I mean as another way to vote...

4. two different suits
I think the one you are asking about is the one brought by Kucinich against NBC over their decision to dis-invite him from participating in the debate. A state court judge has issued an order telling NBC to include DK or else the judge will issue an injunction barring the debate from taking place. NBC is appealing.

5. Earlier this year the NV Democratic Party agreed to set up a series
of "caucuses at large" or some such term. This would allow strip workers, who have very difficult times getting to caucuses because of their work, to get to caucus. No one had a problem with this until the union representing these laborers endorsed Obama. Then persons who support Clinton filed suit saying that it wasn't fair to give these workers "special" treatment.

To me, this looks like sour grapes and disenfranchisement. This suit is shameful...

7. The casino workers' union negotiated a deal with the NV Democratic party to
hold caucuses in the casinos and the teacher's union is upset by this. The deal was announced months ago but the lawsuit just filed.

As you can see by my avatar, I should have no dog in this fight--BUT:

The casino workers are overwhelmingly minority, lower paid--and as a frequent LV visitor, I agree with the deal for another reason--traffic around the LV Strip is a MAJOR nightmare. It can take literally hours to go one mile.

The CWU gets my support here--and I'm neither a fan of HRC's or Obamas...

10. The debate is today.
The lawsuit is about Hillary stealing the election.

11. they
the education workers could set up caucuses to but they don't want to. The strip just happens to be a highly dense location so it makes alot of sense. Plus, the casinos benefit as well.

If Clinton doesn't stop being divisive shes going to tank the whole thing for the dems.

16. Well, if the other unions had the same opportunity to caucus and didn't do it,
I can't see any good reason to keep the casino workers from caucusing in their workplaces. I don't see where HRC can claim that other voters lose opportunities if casino workers gain an opportunity. In instances like this, I always come down on the side of enlarging, not diminishing, democracy...

18. Another problem I have with this is the timing. The deal was announced in May
to much celebration from all involved but the suit wasn't filed until after the CWU made an endorsement of a candidate the teachers union didn't endorse...

17. Here's some pretty fair reporting on it from the Las Vegas Review Journal:
Really good background in the article. I will add that traffic on the Las Vegas Strip (where the major casinos are located) is like molasses in January--slow, dense, and takes hours to move.
