2. You're welcome-these guys are very environmentally aware too
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

The Mavericks Surf Ventures team is committed to preserving the beauty and health of our natural environment. We take this commitment very seriously, so much so that we have made Stewardship one of our core corporate values.

Most of our current environmental programs are focused on the beautiful natural environment surrounding the Mavericks break itself, since that’s where the company got its start and where we have the largest potential impact. But over time, we hope to make much broader contributions as well, educating and encouraging people from all over the world to make positive environmental contributions in their own coastal communities and surroundings.

Our current program – described in more detail on the pages below -- is focused on increasing awareness of the northern California National Marine Sanctuaries and preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Pillar Point Harbour -- a key part of the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. Please take a few minutes to learn more about these amazing areas and how you can help protect them for future generations. Then watch this space for updates as we work hard with our great partners to build a vibrant, year-round environmental preservation program.

3. In our part of the world we have rock climbers and hikers. Both groups
are very conscious of environmental concerns. They stand firm against the loggers and the practice of mountaintop removal.

Thanks for your efforts.

4. I never knew of the Red River Gorge. My family has some property in
southern Ohio (vinton county). This is nice to know about. I'm always on the lookout for new cool places.

They strip mined my grandma's property, and I only went back once-it was disgusting. On our property, I think we still own mineral rights (hopefully).

I love to watch the surfing. Don't think this is on TV. Last year there wasn't a good enough day, and usually this is held during the week (I keep threatening to play hooky at work).

I believe this is the first year of streaming live, and I think it has to do with preserving the environment.

Thanks for the RRG info.

5. It's a beautiful place. I have relatives nearby and I visit when possible.
Natural Bridge State Park is part of the Red River Gorge. We successfully fought against an Army Corp of Engineers plan to dam up the Red River and turn the area into a lake. It would have covered many ancient native American sites and open gas wells. Nearby is a Buddhist Monastery in Furnace Ky. http://www.furnacemountain.org/fm.html http://www.furnacemountain.org/photo.html
