huckabee wants women to be submissive
In a television interview, the ordained Southern Baptist minister and former Arkansas governor made no apologies for the comment made at a Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Salt Lake City.

"It was a speech made to a Christian gathering, and, and certainly that would be appropriate to be said to a gathering of Southern Baptists," Huckabee said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

He gave the speech the same year he endorsed the Baptist convention's statement of beliefs on marriage that "a wife is to submit graciously to the leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ." Huckabee and his wife, Janet, then signed a full-page ad in USA Today in support of the statement with 129 other evangelical leaders.

The former governor, who rallied Christian evangelicals to make him a surprise force in Iowa, has put his faith front and center in his campaign.

1. I find Huckabee a disturbing candidate for various reasons
but he did say at the last Republican debate that if he were President that wouldn't be his place to impose his religious views on others.

While awshuckshuck is quite blessed to have such a naturally subservient and well-mannered wife, many of us on this forum are not so fortunate.

There is a proper time and place for the righteous administration of husbandly justice.

As a general rule of thumb, the length of your rod/belt/bike-chain should be roughly equal to the girth of your ill-tempered Mrs. Not only does this insure you will have ample striking distance, it all makes personal to her the instrument with which her misgivings will be corrected as she is measured with it and verbally berated for allowing her figure to go.

Call me old fashioned, but I personally believe the most effective tool of discipline is not the rod or untwined coat hanger, but rather the fleshy whites of my own knuckles.

Just as foreign bodies often reduce the conductivity and flow of electricity through matter, so too I find that artificial devices hamper the transference of the spirit of Jesus into my wife's oft unruly and disobedient head and back.

But these are just one Christian man's opinions.

3. Mike Huckabee: When Good People Believe Bad Things
It's like Ned Flanders is running for President on the GOP ticket.

Hey, it's a step up. At this rate, they might actually have a decent candidate by the early 24th century.

4. He can kiss my feminist ass.
That whole "submission" thing is complete bullshit. I'm not going to turn myself into "less than" for anyone, male or female.

12. YES!...love that attitude ;)
I only wish some of the young women I work with shared such insight and backbone. They're likely not big on evangelicals, but they respond with astonishing alarm to the blatantly misogynistic, used car salesman lowballing wiles of the jocky-hip-hop chauvinists who likewise see women as second class citizens who only exist upon the earth to be used by macho might = right goons.

Both my wife and I abide feminisms basic tenets, and are raising our daughter with plenty of living examples of this as well.

5. He definitely seems like an "iron my shirt" type of guy.
But he loves to lie, so you'll never hear him admit so.

9. Have you seen photos of his wife? She looks like she wants to cry and scream at the same time.
XemaSab just posted a link to Huckabee's forums in the Lounge:

10. And people wonder why some of us
don't want these types to run the country. Whether it has to do with the role of women, GLBT rights, reproduction or any other issue, people who think their "deeply held religious beliefs" should be the basis for legislation (in any way/shape/form) are freaking scary.

11. The title of your post is misleading
And, unfortunately, Huck's response to the question at the last Faux debate about this will satisfy his base and many, many independents. Its not a winning issue.

And the mikehuckabeeforum.com you linked above is not a true forum of Huckabee supporters, its a parody forum that was made and is controlled by Ron Paulbots. There is a similar one for a few other repuke candidates.
