Clinton upstages Republicans with stimulus plan
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton on Friday proposed $70 billion in emergency spending to stave off a possible U.S. election-year recession, upstaging Republican rivals who clashed over the economy but offered few specifics.

The New York senator, who hopes to become the Democratic nominee in the November election, proposed $30 billion to help low-income families hit by the mortgage crisis and $40 billion in other spending, mainly for the poor and unemployed.

It's comforting to know somebody has a plan. The economy is in the toilet.

1. She would be smart to put folks to work on infrastructure
as that is a good investment with lasting value. Hope that her help to the unemployed includes this (article didn't say).

2. Yep...
It would do wonders for the country. Smart thinking like this is why she gets my support.

5. Creating jobs would be a better return on investment
as long as most of the money makes its way back to low income American workers.

Any infrastructure spending should be linked to using domestically produced materials and labor, with caps on corporate profit.

7. Absolutely
But I could see it as a win win situation-for example, putting folks in the Ozarks to work while making sure things like the dams around here at Bull Shoals and Lake Tanycomo are sound, etc, etc.

6. As long as they use US workers
instead of outsourcing for raw materials and bringing in cheap foreign labor.

9. I don't like it.
She wants to pay for the program by borrowing more money, adding to an already exploding debt. The program should be paid for by spending cuts.
