9. If you saw a UFO, then would people have a right to know about it?

11. That is a separate question and it has nothing to do with a "right" to know.

8. Did you listen to a long message from one, too?
That's the part of MacLaine's statement that I wish DK had disavowed.

We don't need any more Presidents hearing messages from above.

But I guess facts can't get in the way of some people's silly beliefs.

5. i might say that i saw a ufo- but i wouldn't make the leap that it was evidence of non-earth life...
or intelligence.

a u.f.o. is just what it says- an unidentified flying object.

it doesn't mean "flying saucer from mars"

10. No--UFO's are so unlikely to exist that I'd probably rule it out as my own imagination...
It's fairly shocking that most people don't realize that the dimensions of our own solar system, not to mention our galaxy, universe, etc. are so incredibly vast that interplanetary space travel would be all but impossible even at impossibly high speeds.

But whatever....

17. UFO = unidentified flying object. I've seen some unidentified
objects in the sky. I don't believe they were from other planets.

But you do realize we've sent spaceships to other planets, so interplanetary space travel isn't "all but impossible." It's a reality.

28. Not so fast--we've sent PROBES, not spaceships. That's an important distinction.
We've sent probes to land on the three inner planets (also a few moons) and orbit the outer gas giant planets. In the case of the ones that landed, they were small robots with cameras, and in some cases, wheels to get from point A to point B. And in the case of the gas giants, we COULDN'T land because there wasn't any way to--we could only orbit and take photos. No proof of life in any of these places.

And all other planets were found using telescopes, cameras, etc--it'd be very difficult to send any PEOPLE to any solid planets or moons other than Mars, and even then, it'd be very tricky. Sending people outside of our solar system would almost certainly be impossible even going 75% the speed of light. My dad is a rocket scientist--believe me, I know this stuff!

32. We sent OBJECTS that would've been UNIDENTIFIED to anything
on the planet.

That is the point. What they have onboard (robots or cameras) is immaterial to the discussion of UFOs.

37. Oh, Ok...
...I was going by the assumption that UFO=manned Alien spacefraft...a true UFO can be just about anything, including an ordinary sattelite.

Well, I guess it's POSSIBLE that an alien equivalent of Voyager 1 (which was launched in the 70's but still hasn't made it out of the Solar System) might cruise into Earth's atmosphere. But whoever--or whatever--sent it would probably would have been dead for thousands of years, so nobody would be currently controlling it. If it crashed landed, though, that'd be pretty cool...but that's a lot of ifs.

Note: as I said before, I believe there's life out there. But I doubt we'll ever be able to get in touch with them.

19. Well, first of all, you're making the leap that UFOs are from outer space
The term Unidentified Flying Object covers a lot of ground, including new or experimental aircraft of Earthly origin.

Second, if you honestly think that space is so large that it cannot be traversed, then you are short on both science and imagination.

34. Oh, don't worry... someone here will tell you that our lunar landers and space shuttles
don't count in that regard. Nevermind the facts, just full speed ahead with the denial and ignorance!

I've had a very personal experience myself... but that's another story, which I won't divulge at the moment.

Now get ready for one poster who has a fascination with ufo's and anal probes.... :puke:

31. I am a firm believer in life on other planets.
Always have been, always will be.

But I don't think we'll ever get in touch with them. The distances are too great to be travelled by any rule of astrophysics we know of today. That's my opinion--a opinion supported by many in the scientific community, but an opinion nonetheless. Never claimed to know everything...

38. I can respect that position, even if I disagree with it. Hats off to you, then.
Even though I'm an atheist, I have studied the bible in the past and I firmly believe that we originated from another planet and that there was, in fact, space travel happening then and it continues now. The bible itself lends more creedence to this theory than it does of the whole "let there be light" speil. I believe in a combination of "intelligent design", coupled with evolution...

PEACE!

would you bring up a bull argument every time the media shits on the man? Give it up. If you are happy to have a fake election with pretend candidates keep it up. I am sick and tired of these kinds of comments here. Let's talk about Hillary lying us into war with our murdering *resident. Or maybe the fact that Edwards was a gung- ho leader to the front in Iraq. Hey, so much to talk about so little time. Why do you hate America?

36. I could have said a lot of things.
Personally I feel that invading a country under false pretense, killing soldiers and children and everyday people by the thousands is more disgusting than a man stating that he saw lights in the sky that he could not identify. The whole discussion is ludicrous. Where the hell do we get off talking about something so stupid when our country is denying us our Constitutional rights. When the 'popular' candidates seem content to spy on us and lie to us and jabber on and on about meaningless bull. Really I don't care if any of the candidates saw lights of unknown origin and I wonder why so many do. I don't want to hear about candidates talking about their religious beliefs. Should I worry that they profess to believe in an unknown, unseen being that guides their every move? That my friend could be considered weird unless that god has the appropriate name. Kucinich is a good man with many ideas that he has already implemented to help the American people regain their rights. Take a minute and read his positions. You too may understand. Peace, Kim

I guess if I ever saw one (and that idea is totally ridiculous to me) I might change my mind.

16. Dennis didn't announce that he saw a UFO, Shirley McClaine did
And when Timmeh questioned him in the debate, he asked Dennis if he saw a UFO. Dennis's reply was "I saw something.", which is actually a good reply. Dennis never said it was a UFO, just that he saw something strange.
